A heartfelt thank you to the Women & Gender Equity Center @odu_wgec for hosting such an amazing event this Sunday! We loved coming together for this year’s Friendship Day, embracing the power of sisterhood, connection, and community. ✨

To 7 Rulers of Chaos, In definitive terms, Sigma is defined as the summation of all numbers. To us, Sigma represents the culmination of all our hard work. We had set out a journey, and to always stick by each others’ side through it all. No matter how hard things got, or how we felt, we stuck through it all. I’ll forever be proud to call you great men my brothers.

To my Dean, my ADP, I knew you guys for a while before crossing. You guys helped me through it all. You guys helped introduce me to Sigma, all the way until I set out my vision to join this prestigious fraternity. From beginning to end, you guys wanted nothing but the best for us, and showed us all what it means to be true men of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated. For that, I say thank you, my brothers more than anything.

To my people, Happy Juneteenth! Today is more than a day of remembrance, it’s a celebration of resilience, strength, faith, and the unbreakable spirit of our people. Every achievement we reach is built upon the sacrifices of generations who dreamed of opportunities they were never given. Their courage opened doors and their perseverance created pathways that allow us to pursue our education, careers, businesses, families, and purpose with confidence.

To every young Black woman and man striving for greatness: never underestimate the power of your potential. Your dreams are valid. Your voice matters. Your heritage is powerful. Continue to learn, lead, create, and inspire. Walk proudly in who you are and where you come from.

This Juneteenth, let us celebrate our culture, honor our history, strengthen our communities, and continue building a future that reflects the excellence, innovation, and determination that have always defined us.

May we remember the struggles, celebrate the progress, and remain committed to leaving an even greater legacy for the generations that follow.

Tomorrow I will be graduating from Old Dominion University as a Civil Engineering major, but first and foremost, I want to give God all the glory and all the honor as nothing I have accomplished over these four years would be possible without him. He has been my strength, my rock, my teacher, and a loving Father figure, He has shed His grace, glory, and mercy abundantly over me and I can’t express my gratefulness in mere words.

Coming from a different university with different majors both of my freshman semesters, I felt a bit out of place and behind entering ODU my sophomore year, but with God’s blessings, I was able to still finish within 4 years.

Leaning not on my own understanding but trusting in the Lord with all my heart allowed me to endure 16+ credit semesters, 6 courses over 2 summers, an internship as a project engineer, being a student of the Perry Honors College and the National Society of Leadership and Success, on campus jobs as an undergraduate teaching assistant for a computer programming lab and a research assistant for autonomous vehicles and improving their capabilities, and also accumulating a 3.89 GPA and obtaining the distinction of Summa Cum Laude, all while facing the complexities of life.

My journey at ODU has been extremely blessed and rewarding, and I am all the more grateful that I was able to conclude my time at ODU by working on a Senior design project that aimed to improve the living quality of my community by mitigating the flooding in the area.

Truly none of this was possible without God. 1 Corinthians 1:31 says “if you want to boast, boast only about the Lord” and I’ll say it a thousand times over, God was the only way I was able to accomplish this, and I am forever grateful for His unending love.
