[EN] Salvador Dalí and Asexuality: a creative gathering organised by Aerospace and Flower Friends ✨🌷

Aerospace and IDEM’s Flower Friends Art Group are jointly organising a gathering on being aro/ace, exploring the art of Salvador Dalí. 🎨

During this event, we’ll explore whether we can recognise aspects of ourselves and of being aro/ace in the art of Salvador Dalí. We’ll look at quotes and artworks; what do we find relatable, and what don’t we? We’ll also discuss a number of questions in small groups. 💬

Content warnings: Explicit (sexual) content and language.

Dalí was a controversial figure with controversial views.

[NL] Ga je mee wandelen? AeROspACE gaat op stap! 🎒 We blijven wel lekker dicht bij huis: samen met een gids van Regenboogroutes Nijmegen (her)ontdekken we de binnenstad van Nijmegen. ✨ Welke plekken zijn of waren belangrijk voor onze queer gemeenschap en waarom? 🌈

Je vindt ons op zaterdag 26 september vanaf 19:15 uur bij het Roze Huis. Om 19:30 uur beginnen we met een korte introductie en daar na volgt een wandeling van 60-90 minuten. Praktische opmerkingen:

- Als je bepaalde vragen/behoeften hebt rondom toegankelijkheid stuur een mailtje naar aerospace@cocregionijmegen.nl en dan kijken we samen naar de mogelijkheden (dat zijn er veel :) ) ✉️

- Ook bij regen gaat de activiteit door. De wandeling zal worden ingekort en we stoppen alleen op plekken waar we droog staan. ☂️

[EN] Do you want to join us for a walk? AeROspACE is heading out! 🎒 We’ll be staying nice and close to home: together with a guide from Regenboogroutes Nijmegen, we’ll be (re)discovering Nijmegen city centre. ✨ Which places are or were important to our queer community, and why? 🌈

You’ll find us on Saturday 26 September from 7.15 pm at the Roze Huis. At 7.30 pm, we’ll start with a short introduction, followed by a 60–90-minute walk. Practical information:

We spent the day watching films that sparked some big conversations about who gets to make decisions about our bodies, what intimacy can look like when we let go of the usual scripts, and how queer love and community can carry us through systems that weren’t built with us in mind.

So much love to our panellists and poets for bringing their voices, knowledge and energy into the room, to LAB111 for giving us a home for the day, and to all of you who came to watch, listen, ask questions, grab a drink and celebrate Pride together in Amsterdam.

Days like this remind us why we do what we do. Queer stories need to be seen, but we also need spaces to come together, speak freely, listen to each other, ask difficult questions and have a good time while we’re at it.

More queer stories. More queer spaces. More queer joy. Always. 🏳️‍🌈✊

After the screening of 𝘋𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘮𝘦𝘳𝘴, 𝗕𝗲𝘁𝗲 𝘃𝗮𝗻 𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘂𝘄𝗲𝗻 and 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗶 𝗠𝗮𝘅𝘄𝗲𝗹𝗹 brought the conversation to queer migration, Black lesbian identity, representation and the communities we build and care for when belonging isn’t a given.

#WorldPride2026, it's been a dream! After 9 non-stop days working in Amsterdam, I ended it by marching with @aseksualiteit and @aspec_nederland! Considering all of the Pride marches I've done, it's crazy to think that this was my first time walking with an asexual group and it was such an incredible experience. I met so many lovely people. I'll show you more of my Dutch adventures soon!

Next stop, @copenhagenpride! 💜🤍🖤

What an incredible 2 weeks this WorldPride has been! It all started off with a Pride Walk and Pride market. Had some really good conversations and gave a lot of people more information about asexuality. Then came the @aspec_nederland opening event, where I got to know a lot of (international) aces. The Canal Parade on the @cocnld boat was amazing too! Saw half of my activist queer friends there and the other half at @alokvmenon that night.

The highlight of this Pride was no doubt the Ace Talks conference that I organised with @aspec_nederland. Aspec people from all over Europe came to Amsterdam specifically for this event. I’m super proud how the day and the programme turned out. Every speaker had a different expertise or type of activism, so we had a really varied and interesting programme.

I also did 2 panels at the @worldprideconference.amsterdam about the A in ‘the invisible +, and about conversion practices on asexual people. Finally we had the WorldPride March, where I had to say goodbye to all the international people who had come over for the week. 😢 It’s been super special getting to meet so many amazing people from the asexual community and seeing how much @aseksualiteit @aspec_nederland and all of our incredible volunteers have been able to organise. Special shoutout to @missmies89 and @theyasminbenoit for all the collaborations! 🖤🩶🤍💜

We look back with great pleasure (and a little sadness that it is already over) on our Aspec WorldPride week, which has now concluded. From July 31st until August 8th, together with the NOA, we organized a week full of pride, community, and culture for individuals who identify within the aromantic spectrum, the asexual spectrum, or another Aspec identity. In total, about 100 individuals from 11 different nationalities participated in at least one of the activities.

Highlights included the opening event, ace talks, and the WorldPride March. During the opening event, participants had the opportunity to get to know each other in a relaxed way, although a large number had already done so themselves via the WhatsApp group. The idea was to play traditional Dutch games combined with a platonic speed date. That did not go entirely as planned, as everyone was too busy chatting. Nevertheless, it was a great success. The evening was enjoyable, and everyone was able to get to know each other. Ace Talks was a day full of lectures featuring a diverse program of speakers from England and Italy, among others, including someone from advocacy group AVEN, activist Yasmin Benoit, S., one of the hosts of the 24-hour livestreams for International Asexuality Day, and researcher Giulia Zoppolat.

After the rest of the week was filled with cultural activities such as a day at Efteling, Artis, and the Rijksmuseum, a tour of the LGBTI+ archive Ihlia, a nature walk, and a scavenger hunt through Amsterdam, the week concluded with the World Pride March. While we started with about 40 people, our block was found along the way by more and more people who were very happy to see representation and decided to join us, so we ultimately ended up with about 50 people.

Because the group was so close, various activities were organized outside of the scheduled events as well. For instance, the group regularly went out for dinner together, and there was even a pizza night with board games and GeoGuessr at someone's home.

The full schedule for the Ace Talks event is finally there and we are excited to share it with you!

On August 2nd, the doors will open at 1 pm and the event will start at 2 pm. After a small opening talk we start off with a short interview with @theyasminbenoit . Here you will also have the opportunity to ask her questions!

After that, UnYoung from Aurea will talk about @aurea_aromantic ’s new book: The other A in LGBTQIA+, which was released last May.

After a short break, Giulia Zoppolat will speak about her research focused on asexuality, and NOA chairperson Amber Witsenburg will form a panel with Sara Verlee from @biplusnl to talk about a new version of Genderbread, an education tool about gender and sexuality.

Around 5.45 pm it’s time for a dinner break. The location is willing to offer us a pride dinner deal between €18 and €25, but only if sufficient people are willing to use this offer. You can sign up for this until next Sunday, July 26th by sending us an email at AspecNederland@gmail.com

The last part of the Ace Talks event will start with Michael J. Doré, board member of @aven.pt who will talk about AVEN, their history, what they do and where the ace community is going. After the talk, there will be the opportunity for some discussion groups and a Q&A.

In the final part, Yasmin and Amber will return to talk about the conversion therapy ban in the Netherlands and a similar ban that’s currently being drafted in the UK.

The day will end with the opportunity to have a drink together, talk a bit and get to know each other.
