🌏 FIT Europe Annual Meeting 2026 – FIT for the Future
Our profession can be demanding on both mind and body. Long hours at a desk, intensive screen time and sustained concentration can all contribute to tension and discomfort — especially in the back, neck and wrists.

At the FIT Europe Annual Meeting 2026, we are delighted to welcome Francesca Matteoda for a practical session on:

🧘 Yoga and Ergonomics for Translators and Interpreters

Francesca will begin with the basics of a healthy workstation setup, before guiding participants through a series of exercises designed to help prevent and relieve the build-up of tension caused by long periods of sitting at a desk.
A great opportunity to step away from the screen, move, stretch and learn practical techniques you can incorporate into your working routine.

🗓️ 20–21 November 2026
📍 Matadero de Madrid, Spain
🤝 Hosted by @asetrad_org

🌍 FIT Europe Annual Meeting 2026

Burnout is not just about being busy. For freelancers and self-employed language professionals, financial uncertainty, unrealistic deadlines, unsustainable working hours and rates that don’t cover our basic needs can create the perfect breeding ground for burnout.

And now, on top of all this, we are navigating the uncertainty and anxiety surrounding the rapid rise of Artificial Intelligence – with a growing impact on the mental well-being of our profession.

At the FIT Europe Annual Meeting 2026, Aída Ramos will tackle this important topic in her session:

💡 “A Sure-Fire Guide to Burnout (and How to Avoid It)”

Aída will share practical strategies for:
🔹 Setting healthy boundaries
🔹 Protecting your time and energy
🔹 Prioritising self-care
🔹 Maintaining a healthier work–life balance

If you are self-employed and sometimes struggle to switch off, say no, or protect your well-being, this session is definitely for you.

HAPPY 4th OF JULY

EN
The US is marking 250 years of independence through a large public narrative of unity, memory, and national celebration.
But that discourse raises a simple question: if the country is deeply multilingual, in what language does the nation become visible? Census data show that 22% of the population speaks a language other than English at home and that about 61% of those speakers use Spanish.
To speak of the 250th anniversary only in English erases a social reality; to frame it only as English + Spanish is also too narrow for a country shaped by German, French, Indigenous languages, and many other linguistic histories.[apnews +2]
If translation is political, then commemoration is political too: it chooses the language of memory, distributes belonging, and decides who enters the national narrative.
