Well, due to the heat unfortunately Paul Short got cancelled for our group as well as for other teams. Bummer we didn’t get to test our fitness, but we went to the wall for a hard workout and wow did the ladies and men SHOW UP!

8x1000m for the men
6x1000m for the women

Yesterday we came out with a few conclusions after the workout : we’re tougher than we thought and we’re BETTER than we thought. We had some of our girls closing out in under 3:10 and 3:20 for 1000m…These girls are seeing what they can accomplish, and how they can get it done as a team. I love seeing them work in groups and push each other to be the best they can be. Yesterday went from a disappointing event, to an outstanding workout. Rolling with the punches, and it’s gonna prepare them well for championship season.

Piece by piece I think we can do something really special this season.

☘️2026 Jasper XC Invitational☘️

Real season opener for the Manhattan Men and Women’s Cross Country season.

We hosted a meet on the new Blue Sky Sports Complex cross country course. Later this fall, we’ll host the inaugural Metro Conference Championship at the same location. We were greeted with an absolutely perfect early fall day.

We will continue to progress throughout the fall, but the improvement of both programs from last year was evident. The team is growing quickly. We have talent to work with, but it’s only going to get better. People will notice what’s happening here at Manhattan.

We have a pretty good cold running through both teams, and that resulted in larger gaps between our scorers than we’re likely to see the rest of the season. We will also execute the race plan better in two weeks. Now that we’re in the racing season we change training phases. We’ll start to see some faster workouts. I can’t wait to see how the program responds.

Last fall, at our season opener, our top guy ran 26:46. We had four guys under that (on a much tougher course) yesterday. Last year, we had 6 finishers. This year, we held out two guys and still had 13 runners faster than our 5th man from this meet a year ago. Our top guy, Brody ran 1:19 faster than he did last year.

Our top two women, Julia and Bailee, both PRed and ran a combined 2 MINUTES faster than they opened a year ago (on a course not designed for PRs).

Back to training for a few weeks before we go to the Paul Short Invite at Lehigh.

Go Jaspers! ☘️
