POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Asha Bowditch at Saloon
Now until November 1st

When a story is told over and over, the line between truth and fiction blurs. Bowditch plays with this act of retelling, manipulating movement and light to transform autofictional moments into something completely new.

Using sets, props, photographs and compositional staging techniques, Bowditch depicts these fictions and truths before committing them to canvas. The result glows like a feverishly ambiguous dream: a final ruminative act.

By withholding the true source of what is memorialised, the stories remain stuck in an anticipatory limbo. Like a whispered secret coming back entirely different, the painterly hand allows a new, tantalising story to reveal itself.

Catalogue available upon request.

Our walls have a new story to tell.

We’re excited to welcome @ashabowditch as our latest Artist in Residence at Lane’s Edge.

Asha’s work explores the space between truth and fiction, using photography, sets, props and staged compositions to create paintings that feel both familiar and dreamlike. Her works invite you to look a little closer and perhaps question what you’re seeing.

Come down and celebrate the launch of Asha’s residency, with her work now exhibited throughout the venue.

Would you like to exhibit with us?
We’re now taking enquiries from artists interested in future residencies. Get in touch at creative@lanesedge.com.au

Engrossed by personal observation and obsession, Asha Bowditch’s practice transforms ambiguity into moments of preemptive importance. It toys with an unanswered question; how can one instill meaning into a seemingly meaningless moment?

Underpinned by the time and labor taken to commit an instant to canvas, using movement, stillness and a manipulation of light to capture points of lasting impact.

The spectacularly mundane, or the spectacular found within mundanity. The daily occurrences that pass without a second of thought. Giving moments the agency to hold so much, without disclosing what exactly it is they are holding.

See Bowditch’s work this weekend by Sunday the 21st as part of ‘Gesture’.

All works and further information available through our catalogue online.
