Meet The Instructors: Your Guides For The Night __________ @ashahanna Hanna is a multidisciplinary visual artist, born and raised in Brooklyn. Her work is rooted in emotion, memory, and lived experience, and shaped by her heritage. She came to art early not as a pursuit of art itself, but as a necessary space for reflection, healing, and expression. She trained at Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts and earned her BFA from Howard University, studying under Akili Ron Anderson and James Phillips, both members of the AfriCOBRA movement. Working across painting, sculpture, and digital media, Asha creates resonant work that explores love, mental health, identity, and the body. Her current body of work traces the interwoven cycles of love and grief rooted in personal memory and her father’s story, examining how connection, loss, and inherited experience live within the body and shape who we become. At the core of her practice is a commitment to work that feels: holding space for vulnerability, complexity, and connection while inviting recognition and shared understanding.

{¢}urren$ea Life, Liberty & the Pursuit of Happiness are currency for US immigrants During @iamcaribbeing’s fourth annual @governorsisland residency, six artists explore the full scope of Caribbean cultural, geopolitical, economical identity from the Transatlantic Slave Trade to the the time of colonization to present. {¢}urren$ea plays on the intersection of currency + commerce, the movement over ocean + air currents. Whether through the Trans Atlantic Slave Trade or immigrating through sea or air, currents have carried us to this moment in time. How do we have a Caribbean existence on our own terms after a difficult, divided history- exploring all of our identities beyond the tourism complex means slowly bridging and decolonizing our collective Caribbean experience.   Through visual art, artists investigate the Caribbean Odyssey, a journey of trials, tribulations and triumphs that Caribpolitans have endured & triumphed over to rebuild themselves within the Caribbean & the Diaspora. Artists: @ashahanna @em.ill.e @kingdavidthalion @_cultureshock_ @daniellebprivat @phafaroy Curator: @shelleyworrell Opening this Saturday + on view thru October. Watch this space for deets on artist talks, Fieldnic, Fetenic & nuff nuff vibes! . . . . . #caribbeing #iamcaribbeing #caribpolitan #littlecaribbean #caribbeanart
