In honor of spending time in class with some current @templemusicaltheatre sophomores yesterday, here’s a little #tbt action to 2018 and the @templetheaters 50th anniversary Alumni production of @chicagomusical — it was such a blast to be back in the hallowed halls with this crew. 🖤❤️

I love being a writer. I love the joy development brings. I love the conversations new works spark. I love building my own rooms and working with people I've admired from a far. I miss Theatre, not just Broadway, but Theatre. The collaboration, the passion, the laughter and the heartbreak. Today's work was magical and it's only the beginning. Thank you fierce and kind actor friends. Invisible. “History is the tall tale / That you learn / From the book of the scholar. / But there’s another history / You can learn / From the tale that is taller / And wilder and louder / More full of color, too... / Like this tale that’s one hundred and ten percent / Absolutely true...”

#Read 4 of 2021: BELLA: AN AMERICAN TALL TALE by Kirsten Childs, author of THE BUBBLY BLACK GIRL SHEDS HER CHAMELEON SKIN. The world premiere, a co-production directed by Robert O’Hara and choreographed by Camille A. Brown, opened in September 2016 at the Dallas Theater Center before its Off-Broadway run at Playwrights Horizons (who commissioned the new musical). Nominated for six 2018 Lucille Lortel Awards, including Outstanding Musical!

Bella Patterson, a fugitive on the run, is heading from Tupelo, Mississippi to start a new life with her boyfriend, an army private, in New Mexico. The trek through the West is Wild, with disruptions from charming caballeros, stripping cowboys, and rough train robbers that propel Bella and her ample ASSets into situations she’d not anticipated! Are the tales you’ve heard of her as true as they say; or are they simply the product of a wild imagination? What actually happened to this big-booty Tupelo gal? Find out in BELLA: AN AMERICAN TALL TALE!

A rollicking adventure with great pacing. I do think that the denouement is a bit rushed and some moments veer into the (pardon the pun) badonk-ulous, but with all of its zaniness, I had a fun time with this one!

Casting: 5f, 7m. Features a wide range of musical styles and some fun design challenges. Potential audition songs for any gender. Would recommend especially for colleges, community theatres, and independent producers.

THIS IS GOING TO BE EPIC!!!

You are all invited to my biggest Christmas party yet, AND you get to attend from the comfort of your own home!!!

I’m also so excited for all of these performers to be able to see it all put together! You’ll see over 200 cast members between our remote performances and footage from the past 9 productions!!! For safety reasons, all filming has been done one person at a time, or has been submitted by our virtual ensemble, so next week will be the first time they all see each other too!!

Get your best ugly Christmas sweater out, plan a zoom watch party with friends, pour a drink AND JOIN THE PARTY!

MARK YOUR CALENDARS: Tuesday, December 22, at 7pm FOR FREE!!! The premiere will be streamed through my YouTube and all of my Social Media pages (@patrickdorow). I’ll be there in the chats, so be sure to say hi!

The stream will start at 6:30pm to give everyone time to connect and get situated. Show starts at 7pm.

SEE YOU AT THE PARTY!!!
