I’m beyond thrilled that WILLIE AND HIS PIGS is having its Southern premiere at Flyover Film Festival @louisvillefilmsociety tomorrow, Saturday, July 25th.

This film was made through community. From creatives and crew believing in this story and sharing their talents to so many folks from my hometown donating and investing in this film. Thank you to Willie @pickngrinfarm, and Megan Huston for sharing their story and allowing me into their home.

Louder than Guns is getting a theatrical release and taking its message of hope and conversation to cities across the US. This film started with @ketchsecor feeling compelled to speak out in an oped in the NY Times after the Covenant School shooting that our children survived. We are beyond proud to be part of this film and hope you will take the time to watch it. Our wish is it encourages all of us to think about the firearm issue differently and realize both sides can come together for change for our children and for America.

Special thanks to @ketchsecor and @fearless_greene for your passion behind this documentary along with the film’s Director, Doug Pray, Producer @ashleyyorkhere and so many others who made this happen.

The film debuts in NYC May 8-10 at DCTV Firehouse Cinema and will make its way to Nashville’s Belcourt Theater Monday, May 11.

Motivated by a tragic school shooting in Nashville, TN, Ketch Secor, of the popular bluegrass band Old Crow Medicine Show, and radio journalist David Greene, set out to have an open conversation about gun violence in America. The result is a music documentary which humanizes all sides of today’s gun debate: rural, urban, gun-owners and non, and shows how reason and actual listening can help move the needle on gun reform in ways our polarized culture rarely displays.

Excited to announce the regional inspiration and filmmaking powerhouse that is @aresitacoxfilm is teaching a class on creating social change through film in 2026 at Duke in collaboration with our friends @cdsduke

Resita's recent discussions on southern storytelling, following ethical practices in documentation, and the importance of mental health during production was a favorite for our membership!

ABOUT THE CLASS: This hands-on course explores how independent filmmakers can leverage documentary storytelling to create lasting community impact amid an evolving industry landscape. Through case studies, screenings, and collaborative project work, students learn to design impact strategies, engage affected communities, and build partnerships with nonprofits, advocates, and local stakeholders.

ABOUT RESITA: Emmy-winning documentary filmmaker Resita Cox (b. 1994) creates poetic portrayals of her community’s resilience against racism. Her films center Southern Black communities and use intimate narratives to explore environmental justice and hidden Black histories. Her debut film Freedom Hill premiered nationally on PBS in 2024. Cox is a Hulu/Kartemquin Accelerator Fellow, North Star Fellow, 2024 Rockwood Documentary Leaders Fellow (Ford Foundation), a 2025 Chicken & Egg Eggcelerator Fellow, and a 2024/2025 Grounded Possibilities Environmental Justice Fellow. She holds an MFA from Northwestern University and was named an Esteemed Artist by the City of Chicago in 2022.
