POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

one week ago today, i was blessed with the incredible honor of graduating from princeton on the day of my 22nd birthday with a degree in neuroscience and minors in global health/health policy and gender/sexuality studies. here are just a few things i’ve learned throughout my time in college that have (almost) nothing to do with what i studied academically:

i wouldn’t have ability to be proud of the person i am today without the continued support of my family and friends, many of whom pictured above, while there are so many more who made my experience at princeton that much better. even the smallest wave in passing meant so much to me. knowing how to love other people in a way that is active, purposeful, and compassionate is something that is not instinctive, but it has been made easier through the love i’ve received from the communities i’ve found at princeton. the love i was shown at home, love that exemplified the role of blood relationships, was bound by particular cultural beliefs rooted in duty/obligation and individual achievements bringing honor to one’s family, aspects of love that i’m appreciative of and will always carry with me, but still managed to limit my recognition of personal identity/expression. my time at princeton had its own limitations, but it’s the place where i truly learned to love other people with affection/care and a sense of diligence and responsibility to the individuals i surround myself with.

the most important lesson i learned throughout my time in college was that rather than being some self-contained entity, we develop our individuality through the presence and perspectives of others because they serve as key elements of our own embodiment and self-transformations. i will always say that the friends i’ve made here and elsewhere are my family because now that i’ve committed to loving them in the best and most informed way i know how and being loved by them, i am no longer afraid of the person i’m becoming through them.

Thank You, Princeton 🧡🖤 rah rah sis boom ka or whatever. longest caption i’ve ever written, never again!
