“We come to defend our homes, our families, our future. We know the journey will be hard, the fight perilous. But whatever happens, it will be in service to our liberties!” - Silas Martin In life we all fight for different causes, some defend their beliefs, but this entire cast Stood On Business! Playing a character is more than just acting for me, it’s learning their experiences, making profound choices, and portraying realism to its fullest capacity! This year was amazing! Every cast member, staff member, and audience member made every show special and worth it! It was truly a blessing! "It ain't over till I say it's over"... well buddy, it's over. That's a Wrap on Liberty Mountain 2026. I've been in North Carolina working on this show with amazing people telling the story of the battle at Kings Mountain in 1780. Helping a knife workshop, acting, fighting, and dying on the Joy Theatre stage has been an absolute blast. Now it's back to Chicago, and on to the next project! Liberty Mountain by Robert Inman Director: Jeremy Homesley Fight Choreographer: David Reed Fight Captain: @call_me_jess_ Stage Manager: @yayitsgeorgie (Please let me know who I missed so I can give credit to these fabulous people) #theatre #acting #stagecombat #libertymountaindrama #kingsmountain

My sixth season at Liberty Mountain comes to a close. What marked this year was a sense of community and comradery. I’m very blessed that I have the opportunity to work in theatre — some days you don’t really take it all in, but when you do, you realize just how wild and fun the things you’re doing at “work” are. It’s a gift to be able to play pretend. To become someone else while also connecting with and exploring the deepest parts of yourself. To put on a costume and literally feel what it would’ve felt like to be this person. To hold the things your characters would’ve held; from a gavel to a musket. To collaborate with others and learn of the stories that they want to tell. To deeply link to people who you will only know for a fraction of your life. It’s all such a gift. Thank you all for a wonderful season! Enjoy many of the candid photos I took this year.

Summer reenacting with Liberty Mountain! Didn’t take too many photos, 1700s illusions must be preserved. Hung out with cool people, survived the heat, slept in an 18th century tent, and portrayed a red coat on the 4th of July! What more could an American girl ask for? By far some of the best weekends of the summer!

Looking back at my first fall contract with @libertymountaindrama ♥️. Truly an unforgettable experience. School shows, MainStage, kiddos fan mail, wonderful people, special songs and dance, fight choreo, SAFD pass in quarterstaff, AND getting to play a fierce character in history (shoutout Mary Patton)! I love performing history! ♥️♥️♥️

S I L A S - This was one of the most memorable and rewarding experiences I have ever been a part of. The joy that I had playing Silas Martin brought many emotions out of me I almost forgot I had. Working with a beautiful cast, lifelong friends, and people I won’t ever forget, made this Show even more special! Some may not know, but many times in the beginning I wanted to quit and drop out because of the immense pressure I put on myself to portray the character and embody someone I had little knowledge about. But after speaking with my therapist and directors @writerfarmeractor & @ashtreeofthesea lol, they gave me solid advice and I learned more about the history and truly embodied the character. Speaking with GOD, I knew it was time to give it my all and dedicate my time to making sure every show was memorable for every audience member. Having my family show up and seeing their admiration and smiles gave me a sense of fulfillment! I just pray and hope every person who came to the shows and the cast that were a part of this play enjoyed it as much as I did! Thank you for everything! Huzzah! #LibertyMountain

That concludes my fifth season at Liberty Mountain!! What a great honor it has been to work with this cast. The best way I would describe it is lightning in a bottle. I truly feel that this was the best iteration of this show that we’ve had so far; and I can say for certain I’ve made some new friends for life, with whom I got to share many “firsts” with. As a bonus, I got to play this version of Captain Abraham DePeyster, which I’ve wanted to do since my first year in this show when I was twelve. With time, patience, and great effort, your dreams can become a reality.

It can’t be explained, or described, but in the absence of words, I’m able to glimpse the outline of what I’ll never understand. First, a feeling, a powerful curiosity, a firework or a gunshot, thunderstorm or a transformer going, as if there’s a difference. Different. New York. Quick. Full frontal fearlessness in the face of family, travel, life, the whole audience. I think we fell in love, tried to climb out and fell in again and now are stuck where we thought it would sting but it stopped. Love is a bed of coals you won’t have in winter’s cold if you forsake it in the heat of summer, love is a gravity with ecosystems caught in its orbit, the center space between two orbs, yes counter, but beside the word balance, broken only by a hyphen. I have tried, and have failed, and I have never failed, because of her. You first. You only. You Ashley. You feline-eyed curiosity. You are no lighthouse, but when I first saw you, I admit, according to all the compasses and maps, I was far out at sea, nowhere near shore, when a light that shines as bright on any given night as it does the one it saves a life, a light that does not dim, does not flicker, has no shutter, no shade, no shame. Hurdling at its speed and spinning for her own delight, and I could have sworn she was looking for me. Signaling. But no. I’m just one of the lucky few passing through the horizon she’s locked eyes on. Hers, and hers alone. We lucky few, found in her view. #love #happymothersday #thankful

To the mothers who came before us, THANK YOU! On this Mother’s Day, we honor the women of the 18th-century Appalachian frontier. They were farmers, midwives, herbalists, textile makers, and keepers of cultural knowledge. In a world of hardship and resilience, they raised families, held communities together, and passed down traditions we still cherish today. Their work was often invisible, but never insignificant. From the isolated cabins of the Blue Ridge to the small town centers of early North Carolina, women were central to survival and identity on the frontier. Their labor shaped not only homes and hearths, but local economies, civic life, and the preservation of cultural memory. Today, we remember them with gratitude, and we celebrate all who mother in ways both seen and unseen. Happy Mother’s Day from all of us at the Southern Appalachian Historical Association! #MothersDay #HickoryRidgeHistoryMuseum #HornInTheWest #BooneNC #AppalachianHistory #FrontierWomen #HistoricBoone #18thCenturyMothers #WomensHistory #LivingHistory #SAHA #HighCountryNC
