There is something compelling about the way time changes things. Surfaces weather, materials decay, colours shift and something new emerges. In Ashwan’s work, rust becomes part of this process, developing through time, weather, chemistry, neglect and chance. Metal oxidises, surfaces peel, colours bleed and textures emerge, creating marks that cannot be entirely controlled. The process becomes a dialogue between intention and chance, making and allowing, permanence and decay. Rust carries its own history. Every stain, fracture and layer is a record of time passing. What might initially appear as corrosion or decay can become something unexpectedly beautiful. Art, like life, can be a process of knowing when to take control and when to let go. Ultimately, time and the elements will always have their say.

Exhibition Views CHROMA | BLAU On view until September 19, 2026 Painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, and works on paper demonstrate how a single color can unfold in remarkably different ways through material and technique. Oil paint, spray paint, photographic processes, lithography, serigraphy, etching, and cyanotype each reveal a distinct quality of blue. Transparent, luminous hues stand alongside deep cobalt, indigo, and ultramarine. Some works draw their strength from the brilliance of color, while others rely on restraint or on the interplay of surface, material, and light. It is precisely these differences that give the exhibition its distinctive character. Featuring works by: Giulia Dall’Olio @giuliadallolio, Roberto Ghezzi @r.ghezzi, Ashwan @ashwanarts, Johanna Strobel @hijoylo, Silvia Inselvini @in.silvis, Nico Sawatzki @nicosawatzki, Tomislav Topić @topic_tomislav, Marina Gasparini @la_marina_gasparini, Angelika Tóth @angelikatothpainter, Otto Piene, Heinz Mack, Christo, Henri Matisse and Andreas Amrhein. Exhibition Views CHROMA | BLAU On view until September 19, 2026 Blue has accompanied the history of art for centuries. Once, ultramarine was among the most precious pigments available. Later, blue became associated with distance, spirituality, and infinity before emerging as an independent artistic language in modern art. CHROMA | BLUE invites visitors to look at color anew: not as a unifying stylistic device, but as the starting point for a wide range of artistic ideas and forms of expression. Featuring works by: Giulia Dall’Olio @giuliadallolio, Roberto Ghezzi @r.ghezzi, Ashwan @ashwanarts, Johanna Strobel @hijoylo, Silvia Inselvini @in.silvis, Nico Sawatzki @nicosawatzki, Tomislav Topić @topic_tomislav, Marina Gasparini @la_marina_gasparini, Angelika Tóth @angelikatothpainter, Otto Piene, Heinz Mack, Christo, Henri Matisse and Andreas Amrhein.
