Happy Tuesday-
A day after bank holiday and a day of celebrating my little boy ninth birthday yesterday and to say he had the best birthday he ask for- a day out with his family. A book and birthday cake perfect combination

What this week: Thanks for the tag lovely @booksbychlmry

Reading: Five Survival by Holly Jackson- so far such a great young adult thriller loving the whole book.

Listening: Not really been listening to anything really. My girls had Taylor Swift Album on Spotify last night.

What I been doing: Spending much time family time with my little ones before they head back to school next week for a new year. We went to our local wildlife dinosaur park yesterday kids had the best time- all got a little gift each from there gift shop and two new books for their shelf’s.

But I am sooooo excited and I pray for things to go smoothly until then (we’ve been dealing with some very untimely nonsense lately🙄) but we are both super stoked to make it official and enter this next era of our lives 🥰🤩

The last 365 days have been wild. Lots of life changes, but wouldn’t change it for the world. 💜💚🩷🐾 New friends, divorce, moved, but most of all, growth and freedom.

🌱genre i stay away from: hmm none tbh! i’m open to anything and prefer to mix it up often!

🌱worst habit as a reader: not allowing myself to dnf books🙃 there have been so many times where the last quarter of a book makes it all worth it but idk if that’s a good enough reason to drag myself through the majority of it.

🌱do i read the synopsis? all the time!

🌱do i read used books? of course! finding new little used bookshops is my favorite🥲

🌱favs from last year: the last green valley, a tree grows in brooklyn, the invisible life of addie larue, the four winds, and recipes for a sacred life🤎

🌱favorite classic: i’m a gatsby girl— i loved that one. a tree grows in brooklyn is up there too!☺️

🌱current reads: i usually don’t read multiple books at once, but i’m currently reading:
1. happy place — emily henry (fiction)
2. hunt gather parent — michaeleen doucleff (parenting)
3. devotions — mary oliver (poetry)

🌱books i’m looking forward to: a court of silver flames😭 i don’t want to end the series yet, so i’ve been just staring at it lmao

📖 GENRE YOU STAY AWAY FROM?
I'm sorry but I can't do the sports romances. It just does not appeal to me in the slightest.

📖 WORST READING HABIT?
I always have so many books I want to be reading, so I'll read several at the same time. This happens especially with books I have on hold through my library that become available to me, so I pick those up so I won't have to wait weeks again for another chance to read them. And then I have a deadline for those books and it all becomes a bit overwhelming 😅

📖 DO YOU READ SYNOPSIS?
I skim the summary to see if it's a book I'd be interested in, but I like to go into a book mostly blind for maximum enjoyment.

📖 WHAT IS YOUR CURRENT READ?
I am once again reading several books at once. I've got my ebook, my physical book, my audiobook, my ARC read, and the read that puts me to sleep at night:
House of Earth and Blood by SJM
Immortality: A Love Story by Dana Schwartz
Cursed by Marissa Meyer
The Only Purple House in Town by Ann Aguirre
The Greek Plays: Sixteen Plays by Aeschylus, Sophocles, and Euripides

📖 DO YOU READ USED BOOKS?
Yes I love used books! Sure hardcovers and special editions are gorgeous and fun to have, but I mostly just care about reading the book. I read a lot so I love a discount! The used books store I go to offers store credit when you bring in your own books, so that's even better. And I love supporting local businesses. 💖

📖 FAVORITE BOOK FROM LAST YEAR?
Last year was a good reading year for me. I read most of the Throne of Glass series and half of the ACOTAR series, and the Cruel Prince series, so those have to be my favorite.
If we're talking about a book that was PUBLISHED last year, then I'd say the 3rd and final installment to Naomi Novik's Scholomance series (and therefore the rest of the series) 😁

📖 BOOKS YOU'LL ALWAYS RECOMMEND?
If I find out you haven't read ACOTAR yet, that's the instant rec. I'll always recommend anything by SJM, Leigh Bardugo, Holly Black, and Grady Hendrix. Favorite authors 🥰

I already knew that my reading taste became more diverse as I got older. If I listed more than five facts per life stage, you'd also see Isabel Allende, Nella Larsen, and a lot of Japanese literature listed.

But what surprised me was the common themes present in all different times of my life. Since middle school, I have been reading books about complex female relationships, searches for identity and belonging, and epic sagas that focus on place and generation conflict. It's really cool that I've always been drawn to the same themes, even if they presented very differently as I got older.
