We made Paper Flowers because Shalin’s story deserves to be seen and shared.

This behind-the-scenes moment captures Shalin’s parents giving the film’s opening muhurat shot—a powerful reminder of the love, hope, and purpose that inspired this journey from day one.
Every frame of this film is dedicated to honoring his legacy. ❤️

Comment “💛” if you’ve also felt moved by Shalin’s viral true story in #PaperFlowersMovie

Some moments remind us that life isn’t measured by how much time we have, but by how intentionally we live it. ❤️

Grateful to have attended the NJ premiere of Paper Flowers—a deeply moving story of courage, cancer, and embracing every moment of life—and to perform the title song I had written, composed, and sung for the film.

Though the song didn’t make it into the movie, it found its moment at the premiere. Perhaps that itself is a reminder: life may not always unfold as planned, but every moment can still have purpose. 🌸

This weekend I got to do something I’ve never done before, promote an independent film and join the directors on a Q&A panel! 🎬

@paperflowersmovie is a movie based on a true story of an Indian American boy named Shalin Shah that gets diagnosed with an aggressive cancer (synovial sarcoma). His diagnosis then inspires him to live life and embrace everyday with gratitude, purpose and love.

He would then go to write an article that gets published in @huffpost titled, “Thank you, cancer,” describing what cancer had taught him about living and is the official hashtag of the movie.

The movie was so beautiful and as a cancer survivor myself, I related to SO many scenes that Shalin was portrayed in. It is emotional, it’s raw and real. I brought my husband and my mother with me to attend Saturday nights event and even they felt they were reliving what it means to be a cancer caregiver.

The directors Q&A panel was something so special, thank you Mahesh & Santosh for having me be part of this incredible movie event and thank you to producer, Asit for your support and kind words!

My cancer thriver heart is so full 🎥💕

Today Paper Flowers opens in theaters all across the US! This true story about the life of Shalin Shah - about cancer and how it affects everyone involved, about appreciating life and living it to the fullest while we still have the chance, about gratitude - couldn’t have felt more relevant and personal to me. A month after my big brother Torbjørn’s passing, having this story told feels extra meaningful. Just like Torbjørn, Shalin had an incredible resilience and positivity that keep inspiring those of us left behind. US friends - go see this movie! It’ll be worth your while.
And while the rest of us wait for it to come to Europe, you can listen to the score on all streaming platforms. #paperflowers #originalscore #filmcomposer

🎬🌻 Such a special moment seeing Paper Flowers make its way to theaters! I had the incredible opportunity to play Carlita in this film three years ago, and it feels so surreal to finally get to share it with everyone on the big screen. 🥹❤️

I’ll always have such a special place in my heart for little Carlita and the incredible experience of bringing her to life.

In the last few weeks of this Sarcoma Awareness month, I got to know a remarkable young man that I have never actually met. He has an amazing story that involves #sarcoma but an even more inspiring message about #livinglife and #gratitude to what we are all already #blessed to have. In fact, as much as my patients and I, as much as WE talk about fighting sarcoma, he wrote a moving article entitled “Thank you, cancer.” In what was arguably the worst time of his life, there were the best moments of his life, including getting married to his soulmate and deeply reconnecting with his parents. It was about how sarcoma is just a diagnosis, a superficial label, and moving far beyond that to continue living.

I got to know this remarkable young man - Shalin Shah - and hear his message through the movie Paper Flowers (@paperflowersmovie) - coming out nationwide, August 21. Thank you for the introduction @asitvyas_la - the movie producer. Thank you and congratulations for doing such a magnificent job. With the movie, I cried, I laughed, I was touched - and not as a physician, just simply as a fellow human being. I am excited that we can promote #sarcomaawareness to the general public and most of all inspire those of us still impacted by sarcoma.

And thank you, Shalin Shah. I hope you are beaming with joy just seeing all of this among the people you touched and will continue to touch for years to come!

I invite everyone to mark your calendar and make plans to go to your local #amctheater (swipe ⬅️) next weekend - August 21 and 22 - for the premiere of @paperflowersmovie. It is a beautiful story about a young man unexpectedly diagnosed with #sarcoma and how that changed his life …for the better 😳. His experience and outlook carries an inspirational and positive message for all of us fighting this or any other #beast in life. Go see the movie… and if you’re in the LA area - maybe I will see you there! ✅
