This wasn’t a room I needed to feel “grateful” to be in like I snuck in.
This was a room that felt like home.

A safe space.

A place where women leaders could take the armor off…
let their hair down…
and be fully seen without being told they’re too much.

Where your greatness isn’t questioned…it’s affirmed.
Where you don’t have to dim your light to make anyone else comfortable.

Just a room full of women—melanated excellence—
from all walks of life, all levels of greatness,
sharing meals, laughter, and real connection.

Not accolade to accolade…
but woman to woman.

And as a leader, you need spaces like that.
Spaces that pour back into you so you can go out and continue doing the work you’ve been called to do.

Because sometimes getting away…
is exactly what brings you closer to your purpose.

Last week reminded me who I am.
And I’m walking away more grounded, more aligned, and more sure than ever.

Thank you, @kimblackwellpmm , for creating a space where we don’t have to question if we belong…we just are.

I’m back with another @ebonymagazine Beauty & Grooming Awards, and this year, I really leaned into what it means to test beauty in real life. I tapped our staff and even their kids to put hundreds of products through the kind of routines that actually matter. Not a one-time swipe or a quick try, but daily use, long days, early mornings, and everything in between.

And to kick it all off, I brought that same spirit to Brooklyn. For the 2026 Beauty and Grooming Awards kickoff, EBONY did what felt obvious and overdue. We took it back to where it all begins and dropped the salon right in the middle of Brooklyn. Not as nostalgia, but as infrastructure. A reminder that Black beauty has always been built in community, passed hand to hand, chair to chair. From the door, it felt like a function, with cocktails inspired by beauty rituals and a room that moved like a real salon floor, full of conversation, connection, and culture.

After months of testing, vetting, and rotating products through our routines, I can confidently say the 2026 EBONY Beauty & Grooming Awards spotlight the ones that actually deliver. Across skincare, haircare, makeup, fragrance, grooming, tools, kids, and clean beauty, every winner earned its place. The focus was simple: what truly works for melanin-rich skin and how we actually live. s/o to team @ebonymagazine
