Oya sat down with Jessie Gabriel to talk about "The Legal Barriers Women Face in Innovating for Women’s Health." Jessie is the Founder and Managing Partner of @thisisallplaces

Her work reveals that women’s health is no longer emerging — it is accelerating across performance science, biotechnology, and preventative care. Innovation is reshaping how women train, recover, and live in their bodies.

Yet innovation alone does not determine which ideas endure.

Jessie's quotable gems include:

❄️ "As women’s health transitions from a historically underfunded category into a powerful investment frontier, the conversation must expand beyond products and into the systems that govern their growth.“

❄️ "People try to argue that capitalism and private markets are the great equalizer: if you have a great idea, it will get funded. That is just not the case.”

❄️ "In 2025, 1.3% of venture funding went to all-female teams and 61.6% went to all-male teams. That means that for every $1.3M raised by an all-female team, an all-male team raised $61.6M. That is a difference of 47x.”

Last year, I had the privilege of hearing @nasa astronaut @astrovicglover speak about the Artemis II mission.

What stayed with me most was his reflection on the moment Artemis II would pass behind the far side of the Moon — those roughly 40 minutes of complete radio silence, with no contact with Earth, mission control, or loved ones.

I remember being deeply moved, immediately thinking of his wife, Dionna, his family, and of course the families of the entire crew.

This is happening this evening, Monday, April 6 at around 6:47PM ET.

There is something profoundly human about that stretch of silence — not just as a technical reality of space travel, but as an invitation to perspective.

Victor shared a thought that has stayed with me: maybe, for those minutes, all of us here on Earth can simply focus on being human.

So tonight, as they move through that darkness beyond our reach, may we also take a moment. A moment of quiet reflection. Of prayer. Of hope.

May we think about what they represent: courage, exploration, possibility, and the reminder that all of us are sharing this one spinning planet together.

For these few minutes, may the noise quiet. May division quiet. May violence quiet. May fear quiet.

And may we remember what unites us all.

𝟲 𝙨𝙪𝙧𝙜𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙨 𝙞𝙣 𝟭𝟬 𝙢𝙤𝙣𝙩𝙝𝙨…⁣
⁣
At 59. All of 2023 were surgeries.⁣
⁣
And recovery. Mentally and physically.⁣
⁣
And going from negative (strength/movement taken away) having to be sedentary -to- strength -to-negative/sedentary -to-strength -to- negative/sedentary-to-strength-to- negative/sedentary -to- strength -to- negative/sedentary -to- strength -to- negative/sedentary -to-strength. ⁣
⁣
6 times.⁣
⁣
It’s quite easy to watch me and create a particular story about my body, the way it moves, my strength, mobility.⁣
I get that.⁣
We do that.⁣
⁣
𝗔𝗻𝗱-the reality is… it was a brutal year. Many, many tears. Many “go get ‘ems!” Many days of “I can’t”⁣
Many days of yelling, pleading, praying, humor, anger, grief, and acceptance. ⁣
⁣
Finally acceptance. ⁣
Of my new reality.⁣
A cancer survivor and all the gifts that keep giving with that club.⁣ The C club that no one wants to be a member of.
⁣
𝗔𝗻𝗱- never giving up. Believing the stories I had told many of you. ⁣
The stories of growth, grit, the ability to change, heal. That age didn’t matter it just made it harder. ⁣
⁣
𝗔𝗻𝗱- I’d start getting my groove back… then would have another surgery. ⁣
𝙎𝙦𝙪𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝟭, 𝙖𝙜𝙖𝙞𝙣.⁣
⁣
The commitment to keep showing up. ⁣
𝗡𝗼 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿!⁣
To feel the feels yet not let them drive my car. ⁣
To “do it anyway.”⁣
To trust the process of the “keep showing up!”⁣
To “do the hard!”⁣
⁣
I promise you this- when you understand how your body works together, and you lean into the “ 𝙝𝙤𝙬 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙬𝙝𝙮” you WILL change. You WILL gain strength. You WILL move better. You WILL build resilience. ⁣
⁣
It simply takes showing up. Doing the “𝗶𝘁” -no matter. Menopause isn’t an excuse. Just an additional challenge of “doing the hard!”⁣
Find your village of “doing the hard” and cheering you on along the way. A space for tears AND ass smacks to keep doing it- IT. No matter.
⁣
𝙇𝙚𝙩’𝙨 𝙜𝙤 𝙜𝙚𝙩 ‘𝙚𝙢! ⁣
⁣
𝘽𝙪𝙞𝙡𝙙 𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚. 𝙈𝙤𝙫𝙚 𝙗𝙚𝙩𝙩𝙚𝙧. 𝙋𝙡𝙖𝙮 𝙢𝙤𝙧𝙚.⁣

WOC Community Update! Today’s spotlight: Lisa K. Fitzpatrick ❤️

Lisa, Physician Founder of Grapevine Health, recently got her letter reacting to Melinda Gates’ embrace of trust-based philanthropy published by The Chronicle of Philanthropy!

She writes, “This is the model employed by #MackenzieScott. I use maternal health as an example of how billions are invested through a variety of organizations and mechanisms yet we have yet to make a dent in outcomes. I believe this is because in many cases, the funding is disconnected from root causes and drivers of poor outcomes.”

Big win Lisa 🔥🔥🔥 Make sure to follow Lisa on Instagram, askdrfitz, or on LinkedIn to keep up with her journey!

Rodham Institute is excited to be showing a screening of “Trashman” hosted by Georgetown University Center for Health Equity at SE Tennis and Learning Center on Wednesday, January 17th from 6 - 8:30 pm.

RSVP - 💚 https://lnkd.in/e9qNvuK7

Trashman is a personal exploration of the filmmaker Lawrence Green neighborhood trash pollution problem and what community activists in Ward 8 Washington, D.C. are doing to solve this issue. Trashman spotlights Ward 8 Woods, a Washington, D.C. based non-profit organization and their dedicated staff and volunteers as they restore woodlands and clean city streets filled with trash. Trashman compares the stark differences between the maintenance of Rock Creek Park located in a wealthier section of Washington, D.C. to parklands in Ward 8, a less affluent area of the city. Trashman dives into whether environmental issues are important in Ward 8 and who’s responsible for the filmmaker’s neighborhood trash pollution problem.
