A year in Pahokee, with the men Kevin Contento has known since they were kids, now becoming fathers alongside him. No drama, no narration telling you what to feel, just kitchens, laundromats, birthdays, and the quiet work of showing up. Shot in golden light that makes the sugar cane fields feel like something sacred.

This is Palm Beach County, told by someone who actually knows it. World Premiere at the Berlinale Forum.

Screening on Sun. Nov 8 @afflucstudios at 1pm.

Being part of Illinois Media School as an Instructor Assistant and Social Media Manager has been a dope chapter in my journey. 🎥🔥

From helping students develop their skills, assisting instructors, creating content, covering events, and capturing the energy happening around campus — I get the opportunity to pour back into the same creative environment that helped me continue building my own path.

Every day is another chance to learn, teach, create, connect, and help somebody else see what’s possible for them in media.

I’m still building. Still learning. Still creating.

Grateful for the opportunities, the students, the instructors, and every experience that continues to sharpen me both behind the camera and beyond it.

✨THE MOTHS & THE FLAME, a tender and poetic portrait of Black fatherhood in Pahokee, Florida, quietly contradicts stereotypes through everyday acts of care, family, and community devotion. Don’t miss THE MOTHS & THE FLAME by Kevin Contento at this year’s Tallahassee Film Festival!

Over the course of a year, filmmaker Kevin Contento follows a group of young men as they raise children, support their families, and navigate the rhythms of community life. Through patiently observed vignettes—set in kitchens, laundromats, neighbourhood gatherings, and birthday celebrations—the film reveals lives grounded in responsibility, affection, and solidarity.

Interwoven with spiritual poetry, including passages from Farid ud-Din Attar’s Sufi parable The Moths and the Flame, the film transforms the landscape of Pahokee into a space of reflection, dignity, and possibility. Accompanied by the mystical compositions of legendary hip-hop producer 4th Disciple, THE MOTHS & THE FLAME is an intimate and deeply optimistic meditation on family, devotion, and belonging.
