POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

For centuries, Muslim architects, designers, and artists have sought to draw closer to God in every aspect of their work, using art and architecture as a means of ibadah (worship), and bringing the presence of the sacred into every part of their cities. In our modern era, architecture is focused on budget, flashy design, and speed - but it lacks the sacredness of traditional Islamic architecture. What makes Islamic architecture so beautiful and spiritually rich, and how can we learn from the design of these sacred spaces? Join us in a workshop to learn the basics of Islamic art and architecture, and uncover the beauty of centuries of Islamic design.

This week we are highlighting our favorite moments from the year and to start: Knowlton’s 3rd Annual Iftar!
In collaboration with @knowltonsociety , @osu.nomas and @muslimbuckeyes we had a blast breaking fast with everyone last Ramadan and seeing everyone come together to celebrate love and care in the community was amazing. This wouldn’t have been possible without our generous sponsor @asma_national . We hope to see everyone at the next one!

Knowlton is an expansive community filled with beautiful stories, cultures, and experiences. In honor of that, Knowlton’s 3rd “Knowlton Iftar” returns to celebrate Ramadan!

Ramadan is a special month for Muslims around the world where they fast for 30 days (sometimes for 12 hours!). Their fasts begin at Fajr (sunrise) and end at Magrib (sunset). Iftar is the meal Muslims share to break their fasts.

In collaboration with MSA, ASMA, NAMLA, and NOMAS, we invite you to break your fast with us at Knowlton Hall’s Main Space on March 5th at 6:00 PM.

Food will be provided, all are welcome!

As-salam Alaykum!

We’re excited to introduce ASMA — the American Society of Muslim Architects, now launching at the University of Houston! 🕌📐

ASMA is a national organization dedicated to creating a community and promoting representation for Muslim students in architecture and design. Our UH chapter aims to explore the relationship between faith, culture, and the built environment while supporting one another through our academic and professional journeys.

Whether you identify as Muslim or are simply interested in learning and engaging in these conversations, this space is for you.
Here’s to building community, dialogue, and purpose — together.
Welcome to ASMA at UH 🤍

Join ASMA and MC this Thursday for “Islam in Architecture - An Immersive Journey Through History & Present” to learn about the magnificent contributions of Islamic architecture throughout history, how Islamic principles were reflected in this form of art, and how these principles can take place in our built world today. We will also have some fun activities and pizza will be served in shaa Allah! We look forward to seeing you there!
