Whimsical batch

Photographer: @jeetinmotion

Very crack

Too crack Seven women in colourful festive Indian outfits pose together on a lawn, smiling and making peace signs and thumbs-up. They wear a green and gold lehenga with a yellow dupatta, a red lehenga with a printed shawl, a blue printed kurta with jeans, and embroidered mirror-work chaniya cholis. A beige jaali wall and trees are behind them.

I am glad that I came across this film🌻

Chaar Phool Hain aur Duniya Hain by @achalmishra moved something in me.

Here's a confession- I wasn't aware of Vinod Kumar Shukla's existence before I watched the film. The film popped up in my Youtube recommendations and I clicked it purely out of curiosity. Curiosity does lead to wonderful experiences most of the times.

As a viewer who wasn't aware of his large body of work, it felt like a conversation that I probably needed to be a part of but I had no idea that I needed it.

The home, the wooden swing, the pace of the film reminded me of my summer vacations at my Dida's home (Nani ka ghar) in Kolkata. The evenings were slow,I would laze around the house or go up the terrace, the sun rays would sneak in through the windows and I could smell the aroma of fish cooking upstairs in the kitchen.

The first time when I saw Vinod Kumar Shukla on screen, i had no idea who he was. He reminded me of my grandfather whom I was extremely close to. My grandfather wasn't an author, but something about Vinod ji felt like that I have come across a man who looked and experienced the world like my grandfather did. Vinod ji's relationship with pen and paper reminded me how my grandfather shared a close relationship with writing, not in an artistic way where one writes novels or stories but in an ordinary manner.

My grandfather loved writing stuff down- from the kirana store lists to writing long letters to various government authorities to get work done on time. He wrote those letters multiple times. He wrote, he read them out loud, he tore them and wrote them all over again- that was his process. He was never satisfied with how they turned out till the end. He sent out those letters with a straight face and thinking that it could have been better.

There's this particular scene in the film where Vinod ji is having lunch, and in that moment I could just see my grandfather in him . He ate his meals just like that. Through the screen I felt that my grandfather probably experienced the various tastes and textures of the food in a similar way like Vinod ji did.

Throughout the film I could just figure out that Vinod ji is a writer
