Some people see a setback. @astod23 Alex Stoddard sees a story waiting to be told.

My latest 🎙️ Game Changers guest is a filmmaker, platinum-certified music producer, and former @williams_mbb basketball player whose journey has been shaped by big dreams, setbacks, resilience, and belief.

Alex grew up dreaming of playing in the NBA while making films in his basement. When injuries changed his path, he found another way forward — balancing college basketball with a creative career that included gold- and platinum-certified music and a documentary he made after another injury sidelined him.

Today, Alex is creating @thekidfromboston a feature-length documentary about Boston basketball star @tclarke Terrence Clarke — telling the story beyond the headlines and preserving his life, impact, and legacy.

We talk basketball, filmmaking, resilience, purpose, and the power of having coaches who believe in you — sometimes before you fully believe in yourself.

Boston gets to honor one of its own. 🏀🎬

@thekidfromboston is more than a basketball documentary. It’s a celebration of Terrence Clarke’s life, his dream, and the impact he continues to have on the city and the next generation.

What makes this story even more powerful is that it’s being told by young Massachusetts filmmaker @astod23, a former college basketball player and one of Terrence’s former AAU teammates. Stoddard has spent the past two years building the film through the voices of Terrence’s family, coaches and teammates, preserving his story with a perspective deeply connected to Boston basketball.

On September 19, Boston gets the opportunity to see that story on screen at the 42nd Boston Film Festival.

A Boston story. Told by Boston. Carried forward for the next generation.

The Kid From Boston tells the story of Terrance Clarke, a Boston basketball prodigy whose path to the NBA was cut short by a tragic car accident just weeks before the 2021 Draft. Featuring his journey through Brewster Academy and the University of Kentucky, the film celebrates his life and legacy. It honors the lasting impact he continues to have on the next generation of players.
