20+ volunteers helped us clear invasive plants along the East Hillside Trail and Riparian Trail at Ascot Hills Park. It was a slow and easy morning - time flew by in great conversation. As Jerry Schneider always says, “Many people working in synergy makes the work feel lighter.” It’s true. We are so thankful for our volunteers. New faces who showed up for the first time, and our recurring crew - you make our hearts swell with gratitude. Restoration work matters. We are protecting our native plants and habitats, and throwing in some good laughs while we’re at it. @weexploreearth @whs_lausd

Announcing a Weeding Restoration Day at Ascot Hills Park 🌿 🗓 Saturday, January 24, 2026 ⏰ 8:00–10:30 AM 📍 Meet at the Park Nursery (west end of the gravel parking lot) Join the Ascot Hills Park Green Team for a hands-on morning of pulling invasive weeds along Wildflower Hill and the West Ridge Road. We are making room for native plants to grow, bloom, and thrive without being crowded or shaded out by black mustard and cheeseweed mallow. It is peaceful, purposeful, and oddly satisfying to pull these invasive weeds out by the root. A little nature therapy if you will... Please wear closed-toe shoes, long pants, and a long-sleeve shirt. Bring water and gloves if you have them. All are welcome. Come get your hands dirty with us. 💪💚🥾 (Note: mistake on slide two… we will not be planting… only pulling weeds 😅💚💪🌱)

Sitting here in deep gratitude for our amazing community after another great morning of restoration at Ascot Hills Park. Huge thanks to our volunteers, students from Wilson High School, partners from LMU and We Explore Earth, and our dedicated Green Team for gifting us their Saturday morning. 💚 We repaired trails, pulling out old irrigation piping that had become a tripping hazard, and tackled Tree Tobacco on the East Ridge to make space for native plants to grow. We love the curiosity and questions from our volunteers like “Where did Tree Tobacco come from?”, “Can it be smoked?”, and “Why is it called that?” (We may not always have all the answers, but we love digging in to find out!) Thank you to everyone who showed up, smiled, asked questions, and made a difference. (And a special shout-out to the runner who chased us down a hill to return a lost glove!) See you next month, Green Team! 🌱 @weexploreearth @whs_lausd @wilson_fire_ems_magnet @willettelablmu @loyolamarymount @north_east_trees @astraprice @meatnpotatoz @thepoeticpetunia @buhbryan @lluviaarras @el.serenity.garden #AscotHillsPark #GreenTeamLA #HabitatRestoration #CommunityInAction #NativePlants #ElSereno #VolunteerLA #TrailRestoration #WeDigOurVolunteers
