Normal Dreams is a live music and dance performance art piece by dancer @liana.zhenai and musician @astridsonne_ . The piece is now being brought to Los Angeles at @humanresourcesla via @prettybutwicked on November 4

First presented as a part of the Pairings series at La Mama Experimental Theatre Club in New York, curated and produced by Cameron Sczempka, now brought to London via Club Cheek and Qu Junktions. Expect never heard before songs, movement, noise, props and a video call from the big apple.

Liana Zhen-ai is a Brooklyn/London-based dancer and interdisciplinary artist from Los Angeles. She has performed as a soloist with choreographers Holly Blakey, Andrea Miller, and Akira Uchida. Her dancing has been featured in Vogue US, NOWNESS, and Face Magazine, and in venues including MoMA, Lincoln Center, Southbank Centre, and Théâtre Chaillot de Nationale. Liana’s work uses the lenses of new materialism and object-oriented ontology to interrogate shame, nature, and narrative. Her choreographic practice sits at the intersection of dance, dramaturgy, and scholarship, and her work has been presented at Prototype Festival, Amant, Center for Performance Research, and Green-Wood Cemetery in collaboration with the New York Philharmonic.

Astrid Sonne is a Danish, London based composer and viola player. Throughout her acclaimed discography, Astrid Sonne has been carefully crafting different moods through electronic and acoustic instrumental endeavours. On her most recent album Great Doubt (January 2024) this skill is refined, now with the distinct addition of the composer’s own vocal in the fore. The tone of each track is unmistakably Sonne’s, structured around contrasts through an impeccable sense of timing. Lyrics on the album are sparse, merely highlighting different scenes or emotional states of being, leaving the music to fill in the blanks. Yet they also form a pattern of ambiguity, consolidated through the album title, searching for answers through looking at how and what you are asking, questions for the world, questions of love.

I am deeply honored to announce that I will perform my 8-part vocal piece, Canons, at @labiennale

The canons started as a project to sing more with my friends, and now for the Biennale, I have those exact friends I first started writing the canons for by my side

@queenhenriri @fineglindvad @rebbemolina @erikadecasier @astridsonne_ @aaalvildaaa @duehelene

Since then the canons have grown, and I have sung with so many people I love!
Thank you all for sharing them with me

This will be the Italian premiere of Canons, and some new canons will have their world premiere

The concert will take place at Arsenale, Teatro alle Tese the 24th oktober 2026

A special thank you to @cat_barbieri for inviting me to be a part of this incredible program

2024
MJ Lenderman sang the songs we’d already worn out at home, and played guitar like one of the greats.

Gruff Rhys reminded us why he’s a national treasure and Caribou took over the roof terrace for a day party like no other

Nourished By Time brought the wonky soul, Astrid Sonne was quietly extraordinary, Fat Dog and Getdown Services were fun, sweat and chaos.

The Dare and Fcukers brought New York to the Basement. The Horrors turned the Pink Room into a smoke-filled world of their own.

Fontaines D.C. returned to YES, and Erol kept the kids dancing.
