🧚🏼 BOOK REVIEW ~ Emily Wilde’s Map of the Otherlands

This is book two in the series, with a dark twist of fate we see Emily step up to the plate when lives are on the line. Her knowledge proves the most powerful magic of all as she pushes further in Wendell’s quest for his door!

So far each book just gets better and better, number 3 is shaping up to continue this pattern! ✨ I just saw that we are getting a 4th and 5th book in the series and couldn’t be more excited for the continuation of the Em and W chronicles!

Check out some of the amazing fan art that I’ve found since stumbling into this magical world! 👩🏼‍🎨🤍

QOTD: What book are you most anticipating? 📦
.
.
I have two answers for this! For books I’m waiting to receive, I can’t wait for my copy of Arrow of Fortune from the 1898 editions that have been coming out for each book! And in terms of books I can’t wait to be published, I can’t wait for book 4, Mountain of Songs, from the Raiders of the Arcana series. 📚

i’ve had this idea sitting in my notes app for about 9 months, waiting for awards season!! let me present to you, gentle reader, the oscars tag!

the categories are meant to mimic those of the actual show, like instead of best actress we have best fmc, and instead of best score we have best title. eligibility is anything i read during the year 2025.

i used a lot of fanart, so thank you to the following artists:

So many 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸-𝘁𝗼-𝗺𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗲 𝗮𝗱𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 are coming out this year, and it got me thinking about the books that already feel cinematic while you’re reading them. You know the kind. The setting is vivid, the characters feel real, and every scene plays out like a movie in your head.

These books are a few I would absolutely love to see adapted.

Some books simply 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝘆 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝘄𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂’𝗿𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺.

𝗜𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗮𝗱𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗹𝘆, 𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗮 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝘀𝗲.

P.S. I’ve also tagged the artists behind the Emily Wilde artworks!

One of my absolute favorite finds in 2025 was the writing of @heather_fawcett.

Inventive, whimsical, witty, and a touch dark and eerie, Fawcett’s writing is special. It’s cozy, but uncomfortable. Romantic, of the best yearning, idiots in love variety. Her character work is as precise as a trained pâtissière—creative, layered, patient.

Take Wendell Bambleby. Fussy, pretentious, unfiltered. A bit broken, but good at mending. Hopelessly, painfully, desperately devoted. Looks like a cinnamon roll, but could kill you. I’d marry him so fast it’s not funny.

Her Emily is brilliant, ruthless and ruthlessly logical, and for all her accolades, achingly human. Fawcett writes her with so much nuance, depth, and growth over the series. I cried for her, rooted for her, cheered for her.

Agnes, the titular lead of her upcoming novel, is quietly strong-willed, grieving, caring, and hopeful. As in 𝘌𝘮𝘪𝘭𝘺 𝘞𝘪𝘭𝘥𝘦, Fawcett continues to shine with her supporting roles—here, a cast of cats that popped and purred off the page.

If you want tension & banter in something smart, haunting & visually rich—please pick up the wonderful Emily Wilde series.

If you’re up for a cozy fantasy with big feelings, felines & a dash of apocalypse aversion, grab Agnes Aubert’s Mystical Cat Shelter on 2/17. (Thank you, @delreybooks #partner for the early copy!) 🐈🐈‍⬛

I adore all the sets featured here, but my favorite has to be the stunning @owlcrate editions. Every detail, from the naked hardcovers by @catrina_paints to the endpapers to the foiling is pure perfection. @divineliterary you crushed with these.

Also, how cute is this print from @nikittysan? The minute I saw that smirk on Wendell & annoyed-but-smitten exasperation on Emily, I had to have it.

QOTD: Who is your favorite book couple? 🛁
.
.
.
Have I told you about Ellie and Adam? 🤣
.
I adore them as a couple and their chemistry so far throughout the series. I love how Adam supports Ellie as a female academic in a time where she wasn’t accepted at her degree in those fields. I love their witty banter and kind words to each other. Also, they’re meet-cute? Top tier! 🛁
