DAY 1: Black Girl Skin School 📚✨
In honor of Black History Month, we’re unlearning skincare myths that don’t serve us.
1. “Black don’t crack” is not an excuse to neglect your skin. Melanin may delay fine lines, but neglect shows up as uneven tone, texture issues, sagging skin, and laxity over time.
2. Yes—you need sunscreen
UV and visible light trigger hyperpigmentation and melasma, even without burning.
3. Botox and fillers won’t make you look fake
When done conservatively and strategically, injectables enhance—not change—your features.
4. Microneedling is safe for dark skin
Proper depth, technique, and aftercare improve tone and texture without increasing pigment risk.
5. Black skin has different needs than lighter skin
Higher inflammatory response means treatment plans must be customized.
6. There are lasers safe for dark skin
The key is the right wavelength, settings, and an experienced provider.
7. Long-term bleaching cream use is not safe
Chronic use can thin the skin, worsen pigment, and cause rebound discoloration.
8. Chemical peels can be magic for your skin
The right peel, at the right strength, can safely brighten and smooth.
9. Face scrubs will not fade dark spots
Physical exfoliation often increases inflammation and prolongs hyperpigmentation.
10. Oily skin still needs moisturizer
Dehydrated skin produces more oil, leading to breakouts and dark marks.

This past weekend, I took a trip to Maryland to visit @raeaestheticmd for a training by these two queens @beautybybrittnp and @beatheinjector.rae. I learned so much much from these women and they were so genuinely kind and supportive. The space was gorg 🥰
