Stack of Ribs & Hips

It’s something we talk about a lot over the summer in the gym with the hockey players. It’s really common to see players with a flared rib cage and an anterior tilted (butt out) posture.

We’ll utilize a lot of exercises to help players gain an understanding of how to move out of that position and into a more optimal one (stacked ribs and hips).

These Bridge Pullovers are an advanced drill that we look to get to later in the offseason.

It’s really difficult to maintain that stack while reaching your arms overhead. I’m not always concerned how straight the arms are but more so concerned on how the hips and torso react to that action.

It’s all in the Hips 🕺

It can good to slow things down to figure how to move your body. Hip CARs are one of my favorite ways to do that. You go through every range of motion your hip has access to so it shows what you do and don’t have available to you. They’re also a great warm up for the hips in general.

It’s a big reason I teach them to all my hockey players. It also gives them instant feedback on what we may also need to incorporate into their offseason training.

Follow the tips in the video and you’ll be moving just like @chillig_2288 on the ice!

2026 Hockey Offseason Recap

With school starting up again we only have a few hockey players left at the gym so we’re starting to wrap up here.

This offseason was the most amount of hockey players we’ve had at the gym for the summer. We started as a little college group that included myself and @zach_solow back when I was still an athlete here. Glad to see Z is still buzzing with us.

Now we have several college/pro groups as well as our high school and youth groups from @1848hockeycollective . It was absolutely crazy but it is so incredibly cool to see this community at the gym continue to grow each year. I couldn’t be happier with it and where we’re heading!

To be able to give back to a game that has given me so much is always the most rewarding part. I was in their shoes once and my summers were dedicated to being the best hockey player I could be. The gym was always my third home (second was the rink of course) when I was playing. I want this to feel like a home for them. As you can see at the end of the video the girls have no problem doing that.

To all the new faces and the OGs, it really was an awesome offseason and I cannot wait to see you all crush it in your seasons!

If I could be anywhere today, I’d be right here in Mequon. 📍

Top-ranked schools. Beautiful parks. A growing town center. Lake Michigan just minutes away. And homes ranging from classic ranches to some of Wisconsin’s most stunning luxury estates.

Mequon isn’t just one of the best places to live in southeastern Wisconsin—it’s a community built around lifestyle.

Would you live here?

All eyes but no hands

Hockey requires a lot of hand eye coordination and it’s not something that can just be done on the ice. We can incorporate in to our off ice training as well. Whether it be the warm up or in between sets when can use this time wisely to develop the skill. This can be done with various juggling drills, dribbles, throwing/catching, etc.

My favorite time to utilize them is between sets. Trying to focus when you’re tired/recovering isn’t easy and pays some comparison to on the ice as well. (Hard to focus when you’re out on an extended shift right?).

Regardless, it’s a little something we can add to our training to help give us an edge!

What are your favorite hand eye drills?
