The summer is drawing to a close, and we really packed it all in! What started as a small idea ~18 months ago had grown into an amazing community of women, trans and non-binary folk stoked on riding bikes, building skills, and coming together in the outdoors. And that all culminated in a magical weekend at our End of Season Camp Out, beautifully captured here by @roxannagbaz 🫶

A massive thanks to everyone who brought their energy, laughter and support to the Afan Forest last weekend 🌲 We rode, tie-dyed, saunaed, dipped, ate homecooked food and connected over campfires under starry skies ✨ Tell us your favourite memory from the trip!

So grateful to @__rollmodels for a weekend of the best silly chats, the fastest ever gravel descents and the sweetest company at their 2026 end of season camp out 🌱🚴🏽‍♀️🌏 we all met earlier this year at the start of the mentorship program and it’s been so cool to hang out again, hear about everyone’s summer bikepacking adventures and ride together in the gorgeous Afan Valley (v keen to get riding/ skidding here again soon) 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 💖 roll models 4 lyf, get signed up for 2027 if you know what’s good for u xx

Roll Models is a community for women trans and non-binary folk, built around the belief that getting outside riding bikes and doing adventurous things together can change how we see ourselves and what we think we’re capable of.

We create welcoming pathways into cycling and outdoor adventure through mentorship, skills sharing and community events, and demand for our programming has grown massively since we launched in spring 2025. We are looking to convene a steering group to help shape our strategic direction!

Several times during the week, we considered getting normal office jobs…

For one week, we chased stories across Spain at the @lostdot101. Here is few behind the scenes as a race reporter.

Because behind the photos, the podcast episodes, the social posts and the race coverage, there’s a whole team working incredibly hard to make it happen.

Monitoring trackers, checking riders’ safety, coordinating logistics, solving problems before they become problems, there’s an incredible amount of work happening behind the scenes.

Several times during the week, we considered getting office jobs tho… when riders arrived 11 minutes after the cut-off time and we had front-row seats to the disappointment. Those moments hurt, even when you’re not the one racing.
The emotional rollercoaster was real.

But then I looked around, at the riders, at the stories, at the fun we had in the car, and I remembered why I’m terrible at working between four walls.

Even when my office technically had walls that week, they were the walls of a moving car. And somehow, that felt just right.

Last week was incredible.

I followed the inaugural @lostdot101 across Spain and Portugal, filming and cutting 20 reels on the go over 8 days to tell stories from the road in real time.

The last time I shot an ultra, I came away with an unexpected huge buzz - and this time was no different. Following these talented and focussed riders and interviewing them in various states of sleep deprivation (both them and me), sharing a lot of laughs and some cries, has been hard, fulfilling, and fun. I’ve met some incredible humans and it‘s been creatively juicy, and reminded me how much I can be happily engulfed by video work (maybe it’s time to reopen that ultra cycling film project…)

The 101 is the first ever FLINTA ultra-cycling race. You can listen to the incredible podcast @n_i_kuu put together and read the brilliant race reports written on the road by @athlynck.

On Wednesday, Roll Models (Athlyn + former mentor/mentee pair Aggie and Steph) held a lil Q&A as part of @tailfincycling's monthly film night.

The film was @hennapalosaari's Ride to Ride, in which she embarks on a bike-to-splitboard mission around Norway with @karenemiliae. Henna spoke about how spending time with more experienced people in the mountains helped her grow as a rider, and she realised her desire to learn more so that she could safely push her limits.

While we’re not set up for snowsports mentorship (yet!?), the film had so many parallels with what Roll Models is trying to achieve – connecting folks with a bit of experience with those who are curious to learn, in order to grow confidence and knowledge together in a safe environment.

🏳️‍⚧️ This is what solidarity looks like🏳️‍⚧️

Yesterday, over 80 people set off on a ride from central Bristol to show their solidarity with the trans community. The ride came about because I turned down my 100 Women in Cycling award from Cycling UK, after they excluded trans women this year.

In collaboration with @allterre, @loopbikepacking and @_lunarcycles_ (whose founders also turned down their awards), we organised the ride to show our allyship, and invited anyone to come along. Rides also took place in London (organised by @velociposse) and Edinburgh (@infrasisters_ ), and there was such a great turn out across the board.

Thanks to all who showed up!!

This has been an incredible first year for @__rollmodels, and a lovely way to wrap up 2025 in allyship and solidarity with so many others. We have lots of ideas brewing for 2026, and we’re excited to open applications for our mentorship programme again in Spring. Developing bikepacking/touring skills is good and all, but can you carry an egg on a spork while riding a bike!? 🥚 🥄 🚲

At our end of season camp out last month, our cohort went head-to-head in the inaugural BIKE edition Egg n Spork Race (inspired by @peak.divide’s spork-related antics), and hilarity ensued... Here’s to more weekends full of belly laughs, reflections around the campfire, and hearty food. Watch this space 👀

I’M HAVING SO MUCH FUN!

That was my declaration as I bounced my way down a gravel path this weekend. Thanks to the loan of a Camino gravel bike from @alpkit and the community and support from @__rollmodels I tried gravel riding and bike packing for the first time. Both were a resounding success.

Things I learnt:
🚲 Gears are great. Riding this bike made me realise how limiting the gearing is on my current bike, and I powered up hills I would normally have had to push up.
🚲 Gravel bikes are funnnnn. I think I might need one.
🚲 Finding your cycling community is key. I’m definitely in the chatty/snacky/ambley/laughing camp and felt so supported and cheered on by the @__rollmodels crew
🚲 @athlynck and @cordeliageorgia have created something awesome with this programme. Also the bike egg and spork race was inspired…

Also nice to have a break from house stuff for a moment and camp in a beautiful place.
