↩️ // rewinding again to catch up on the last few months of my nomadic adventures:

- september in new orleans: my family’s roots are here, and i’ve appreciated every opportunity to experience it in new and familiar ways in my adult life. september was full of saturday mornings with my little cousins, sunday saints games and root beer floats with grandma, and doggy dates at audubon park. i stayed in the bywater which felt just right. i’ve long missed my time on the porch under the weeping bottlebrush tree outside my rental, watching the hummingbirds (and dodging the mosquitos).

- six weeks back in my home state (country) of texas, spending more time with family. state fair, wurstfest, a work trip on the san antonio riverwalk, and a quick 36 hours in austin to clean out an old storage unit (genuine life advice—don’t get that storage unit).

- made my way back out west with a long haul to denver, split up by a weekend in santa fe. i finally felt the cold weather i’d been waiting for, and enjoyed taking in the pueblo influence of new mexico during the quick weekend stopover. a day trip to the ojo caliente hot springs was a perfect cap on the weekend.

- a month in denver living in lohi (and absolutely loving it). i’ve spent a lot of time in colorado over the years, but not much time in the mile high city. the month went by fast—as all the rest have this year—but i made the most of life by the front range. i’ll be back sooner than later. one truth remains: i never feel more free than when i’m out west.

- finally, a week in laramie, wyoming. i spent some time there for work years ago in a former life and have always loved how vast and open it is out there. two of my closest and oldest friends recently moved there, which was such an easy excuse to pencil it in during my travels. it was nice to slow down for a little bit while watching my friends take on their own adventure of parenthood, and i couldn’t be more proud of them.

also, hello from europe! more on the international leg later. i’ve got travel booked through q1 to round out a year of the nomadic life and i can’t wait for everything to play out!

Pretty sure Vulcan just thought we were on vacation, but we were actually transferring Athena to her new home in Kentucky with her new family🥰 @atillustrate @nicolina.taylor #dogtraining #dogtrainer #dogoftheday #dogsofinstagram #doakdogtraining #dobermansofinstagram #dobermanpinscher #balanceddogtraining #behaviormanagement #balanceddogtrainer #behaviormodification #lonestarpridedobermans

Athena and I working on an exercise called "sit on the dog" in order to teach and reinforce calm in the place command. I don't give any commands other than the initial 'place' or a verbal correction for trying to step off. I only reward calm behavior by giving food but still remain silent. This is such an easy exercise to do which hanging out on the couch, watching TV or working on the computer! #doakdogtraining #dogtraining #dogtrainer #servicedogtrainer #servicedogtraining #behaviormodification #balanceddogtraining #behaviormanagement #balanceddogtrainer

Working on Miss Athena's heel! Athena is a 2.5yr old Doberman who was recently rehomed and is going through our 8 week Advanced Off-leash Obedience program before making the big trip to her new family in Kentucky 🥰 #dobermansofinstagram #doakdogtraining #dogtraining #dobermanpinscher #dogtrainer #behaviormodification #balanceddogtraining #behaviormanagement #balanceddogtrainer

This may not look like much but anyone who knows Wrangler will understand how much of a win this is! To have him in a normal, run-of-the-mill wire crate was thought to be impossible before. As our 8 week program comes to an end, I couldn't be more proud of how far he's come! I'm going to miss having this big guy around every day🥰 #dogtraining #dogtrainer #doakdogtraining #behaviormodification #behaviormanagement #balanceddogtraining #balanceddogtrainer

Wrangler struggles heavily with anxiety, especially separation anxiety. The past two weeks he's been with me, we've strictly been focusing on weaning him off his trazadone, crate desensitization and becoming comfortable being alone. So as part of this, I've been having him spend time in the backyard all by himself for extended periods of time, which at first was extremely difficult and he would pace, bark, scratch the doors/ windows and even tried to chew on portions of the house! But he's now learning to be comfortable and even enjoy his naps in the sun 😁 #doakdogtraining #dogtraining #dogtrainer #servicedogtrainer #servicedogtraining #behaviormodification #balanceddogtraining #behaviormanagement #balanceddogtrainer
