This series of works, COMPRESSORS (2026), explores the legacy of field botany through the material and symbolic language of the backpacks once used to collect, transport, and preserve plants and seeds, unfolding the tensions between botany as a practice of care and as a technology of colonial extraction. Chains and climbing ropes intersect with botanical matter, exposing the paradox: Between the herbarium and the field, the apparatus of collection becomes a site of friction, asking what it means to preserve a plant while severing it from the conditions that sustain it. Rather than treating plants as passive specimens, COMPRESSORS opens a space for a different relationship with vegetal life, one attentive to its agency, its entanglements, and the possibility of forms of knowledge grounded in reciprocity rather than possession.

Lucerna (Adolfo Bimer & Gabriel Alonso, 2026) draws on ancient lamps fuelled by vegetable oils to unfold a fiction around alternative forms of illumination, in which plant matter ceases to function as fuel and instead becomes a membrane, a support, and an agent of light. Situated somewhere between artefact and speculative technology, the work imagines a future, or alternative past, in which illumination might develop in dialogue with the metabolic processes of plants. A membrane embedded with different botanical species, seeds, and flowers acts as a sensitive surface and a light-emitting device, giving rise to an object situated between fantasy and science.
The final image depicts the pwca, a mysterious figure carrying a light, belonging to a landscape alive with mischief, uncertainty, and forces that do not necessarily share human intentions. Darkness is not an empty space waiting to be illuminated; it is a world inhabited by other agencies.

“A long chemical dream” opened by placing a bouquet of flowers inside a box. The flowers were still fresh then, arriving from gardens and plants surrounding the gallery. We closed the box and left them alone. Over the following weeks, the glass will slowly fog, the stems will darken, the petals will fall, and a small weather system will develop inside. No one will water them. No one will intervene. The bouquet will simply continue its own quiet transformation while people come and go around it. Here some photos of flowers and plants and gardeners, those who cared and cultivated this project.

ATM Galería (@atm_galeria) expone un proyecto centrado en la práctica de Aida Valdés, centrado en el ámbito de la escultura y el ensamblaje, entendidos como una forma expandida de collage tridimensional.

El gesto de juntar cosas es el punto de partida de su trabajo. En este proceso, el material actúa como interlocutor activo, un campo de decisiones, repeticiones y desplazamientos.
