If you had told young me that I would be working with the top athletes in the world, I would have had a hard time believing you (or even imagining the possibility).

So today, the word that comes to mind is BEYOND.
BEYOND grateful for the amazing athletes and coworkers who have become family.
BEYOND grateful for the organization that took a chance on me 7 seasons ago.
BEYOND thankful for the strength coaches and mentors I have met along the way.
BEYOND happy for all the smiles, laughs, tears, hugs, high fives, and flexes shared throughout the seasons.

This sunset season was everything BEYOND my wildest dreams. And for that, muchísimas gracias šŸ«¶šŸ½

Games generally present opportunities for intent to be maximized without having to beg for effort from anyone.

Joy has a place in training.

Athletes want to compete. Even if the ā€œcompetitionā€ is not letting a balloon hit the floor.

As a coach, I think it’s our job to solve problems and get creative with solutions. During this relay game- the ā€œstarting athletesā€ would stand on the 10ft line, launch the balloon up as high as they could, and sprint back to the service line where their teammate was waiting to be tagged so they could run to where the balloon was, hit it up in the air again, and run back to tag the next human. Doesn’t seem like a ton of ground to cover, but the balloon’s path isn’t certain! So chaos emerges! But so does fun.

All of a sudden we aren’t running. We aren’t sprinting. We aren’t exerting tons of grueling effort. We’re just having fun.

You as the coach get to manipulate constraints: distance, movement patterns, rules of the games, rest times with the amount of people in groups, etc… GET CREATIVE!! And if you’re not (some people just aren’t! It’s okay! We all have strengths & weaknesses) surround yourself with or follow people who are!! People like @tfranklinperformance @emergeperformance @coach_whyte @atrain_strength post creative gamified warm ups and training sessions all the time that inspire me. It’s okay to take things from or be inspired by others! Give credit where credit is due and move on.

Finding new ways to connect with athletes and giving them new avenues to express their athleticism is a very important part of this job.

Stay curious and keep exploring new ways to improve upon the qualities you want to see expressed.

Smiles to start your Friday: 6am sessions can’t afford to have a slow start.

We used this gem that I’ve seen a lot of people use, and I’ve used in the past with volleyball with different attacking implements, volleyballs instead of a stability ball, but the results are the same!

Here: attackers have :20 to try and knock down the foam rollers in the middle of the cones. Defender is doing what they can to not let that happen! Simple.

Multi-directional movement āœ…
Coordination as the defender’s eyes have to track and react āœ…
Communication between teammates āœ…

FUN. Laughs & smiles & goofiness to get our early morning rolling & bodies warm.

This one was for sure most prominently in my feed from @emergeperformance but I’ve also seen @atrain_strength use a variation with her team.

Manipulate the constraints to get what you want out of your warm up. Whether you gamify it or not.

Stay curious and seek to make your warm ups worth the time spent.
