Where do I begin?

When I met you 12 years ago, I had a feeling. A deep soul feeling that you were meant to be the person walking beside me in this life.

Then I listened to your music, read your short stories, and sang with you.

It was clear I had also found my creative partner and muse. And I believe you felt that too.

And here we are, two big kids in the Big Apple creating, musing, loving, and walking side by side.

I am so proud of you, @cleedionne. Authority Terminal is just the beginning.

Thank you to the @working.theater, @colm_summers, @sanam_laila_hashemi for uplifting a gift I have known in secret for good, long while.

Cheers to the other fabulous Mark Plesent Commission Winner and dear heart, @attashments for your beautiful accomplishment! I only wish I could have been there to cheer you both on. 💗

there are maaaany, many things I could say about last night but I will try to keep it brief. to put it plain and simple: the whole reason I live in new york city now can be traced back to lin and his music. hamilton was my formal introduction to the world of musical theatre— it’s what led me to hit play on countless other cast recordings, most importantly being in the heights. that simple action of hitting play altered so much about my life, and it was all through being introduced to mandy and hearing breathe for the first time. what breathe meant to me in high school is different from what breathe meant to me in college, and yet again means something different to my 25 year old self. that is the beauty of lin’s music— it is timeless. it grows with you and allows you to look back and (quite literally) remember why and where you started. it was unreal to relive a decade of music that saw me through so many stages of life. i’ve said it before and i will say it again a million more times with whatever time i’m given on this earth: growing up with mandy has been an overwhelming gift. it has brought me the greatest friends, encouraged me to pursue aspirations beyond my wildest dreams, and has given me some of the most special memories of my life. this city does not make things easy. bad days can truly be like no other and trying to “make it” here leaves quite a few claw marks. but it’s nights like this remind me why i’m here and everything I did to get here. couldn’t be more grateful. 🤍

KINKY is a new stage play by Ashley Graves that centers on Tiff, a Black woman who returns home to West Philly only to find the past waiting in the form of a crumbling community, her grandmother’s choices, and a long-buried family secret. KINKY is a tangled journey of what we inherit, what we hide, and what it takes to heal when life forces you to start over.

This intimate staged reading explores themes of Black womanhood, generational trauma, and beauty politics—with hair as both metaphor and method of survival.
