Jubilee Kitchen offers students several ways to get involved, including daily volunteer opportunities, internships, clothing drives, and assembling care packets. Located just a few blocks from Duquesne’s campus, Jubilee Kitchen has served the Uptown/Lower Hill neighborhood from the same location since 1979.

At the Office of Community Engagement Fair, they’re looking forward to introducing students to the work they do every day, from providing food and clothing assistance to connecting community members with other supportive services.

If you stop by their table, ask:
How can the campus community support Jubilee Kitchen’s mission?

Allegheny County Health Department offers students opportunities through internships and employment, with potential volunteer opportunities being explored for the future. A fun piece of local history: Allegheny County was home to the first WIC office in Pennsylvania and the second in the country, beginning its work supporting the nutritional needs of infants, children, and pregnant and postpartum mothers in 1974.

At the Office of Community Engagement Fair, they’re looking forward to making new connections and talking with students about the many different ways people can build careers in public health.

If you stop by their table, ask:
What kinds of jobs are available at a health department?
OR
What do you enjoy about working in public health?

Pittsburgh Action Against Rape (PAAR) offers students opportunities to get involved through volunteering and undergraduate or graduate internships. Volunteers can help staff PAAR’s 24/7 helpline for survivors, providing an important source of support. Founded in 1972 as Pennsylvania’s first rape crisis center, PAAR is also one of the oldest rape crisis centers in the country.

At the Office of Community Engagement Fair, they’re looking forward to connecting with students and making sure they know that PAAR is a resource available to them.

If you stop by their table, ask:
What kinds of things can PAAR help me with?

I attended my first and only Pink Floyd concert in utero in 1994 (thanks, mom).

“The Great Gig In the Sky” is perhaps one of the most iconic vocal performances in history, recorded 53 years ago this year at Abbey Road Studios by the astonishingly talented Clare Torry.

As a vocalist, there are some songs that just humble the shit out of you… “The Great Gig In the Sky” is one of them.

I am so honored to have had the opportunity to perform this incredibly powerful and moving piece live for the very first time alongside some of my brilliant colleagues and friends at this year’s Voices Carry event in Pittsburgh.

What a privilege to step into this piece of music that has been with me, truly, since the beginning… 🌈🖤

((also, @britfloyd shooting my shot here, but I’m available April 17th… 🙏🏼🎶))

The ATHENA Lessons #7 — ASK ATHENA

Our last lesson comes from Jennifer Ploskina, Chief Development Officer at Auberle, and 2026 ATHENA Award finalist. We finish with the one who answered a different question, and went straight to the source.

"Empowerment. I think of Athena, actually. The strong, capable, confident woman who doesn't take no for an answer, doesn't listen to the critics, and proceeds forward with a confidence and acceptance that they can do anything. And if they want to make a difference in the world, they can."

⸻

The ATHENA Lessons end here. The 2026 ATHENA Awards, hosted by Pittsburgh Technology Council, are tomorrow.

To every finalist who let us point a camera at her: thank you and good luck tomorrow!!!

Ten years of changing lives in Pittsburgh.

It was an honor to partner with Auberle and 412 Youth Zone to celebrate this incredible milestone through a Street Studio experience that brought staff, supporters, and community members together to create one piece of art.

Every brushstroke became a reminder that no one builds something meaningful alone.

To everyone who stopped by to paint, share a conversation, or celebrate the impact of 412 Youth Zone, thank you for being part of it.

Congratulations on 10 years of serving Pittsburgh's youth. Looking forward to coming together to make the next ten years even more impactful!
