Love letter from @cloverkhayalan & @sophie.heima

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

The last 2 minutes of trail running with Aubrey behind our villa in Amed.

A barking puppy, the promise of Indomie by the pool, and one last hill before home.

No music. Just footsteps, little conversations, and a little adventure together. 🌿

Aubrey completed his 5k run this morning with @far.ubud . It was not easy for him as he: ended up in the paddy field twice, fell down on some cracked concrete, got chased my a little dog and almost ran into a ditch. But he did it and we couldn’t be prouder! #Aubreycedric #runnerkids #runninginubud

Google Photos reminded us of this moment—exactly five years ago.

(Slide 1)
We were living on the 4th floor of our after-school program building.
It wasn’t fancy, but it was ours—filled with chaos, laughter, and daydreams.
We’d pretend we were already in Bali. We set up a rooftop “spa” with gamelan music and the sound of running water from the tap.

(Slide 2)
That morning looked like any other.
Clover and Aubrey were still asleep.
But something felt different.
I turned to Lucy and said, “I want to wake up in Bali tomorrow.”
She said, “Okay.”

(Slide 3)
Seven hours later, we were checking the tires and tuning up our old grey Grand Livina.
No bookings. No plan. Just a car full of kids, some snacks, and a wild idea.

(Slide 4)
We hit the road. I don’t think either of us knew exactly what we were doing.
The only thing in our mind was: get to that strait and trust that things would work themselves out.

(Slide 5)
We slept in the car at a rest stop that night.
Not quite Bali yet—but we were already far from everything we knew.
Woke up with stiff necks, groggy kids, and full hearts.

(Slide 6)
Crossing the ocean felt like a symbol.
We didn’t have a clear destination—just this deep pull from the island.
We had no clue what would happen next, but Bali was calling.

(Slide 7)
We arrived with no hotel booked.
We drove around in the dark, tired and unsure, facing closed doors.
At midnight, just when we were about to give up, we found a room.
It felt like a tiny miracle.

(Slide 8)
Not long after, we moved into a little villa surrounded by paddy fields.
We carried our stuff, kids, and a lot of hope.
It wasn’t perfect. But we were where we're supposed to be.

People called us crazy.
Maybe we were.

But life can only be understood backwards, and lived forwards.
What we have now is better than anything we could’ve ever planned.

Thank you, universe.
Thank you, five minutes of courage.
Thank you, Bali.
And thank you, dear grey Grand Livina—you’re no longer with us, but you carried us to a new life.

If you're holding onto a dream that scares you... maybe you're closer than you think.
Sometimes all it takes is one bold moment.
Just enough courage to take the first step.

Splendid Soccer Saturday⚽

RAPTORS Vs. BULLDOG
4:1

Clover & her beloved Raptors were initially intimidated by the size of their opponents.
The Bulldogs are both bigger and older (14+ yo.), while most of the Raptors haven't even turned 13 yet.

I'm so happy to see parents, siblings, coach, boy Raptors coming out to support their girls. Beyond happy to see Clover scored the second goal and produced 2 assists. Such a great feeling to be part of a supportive community.

Slide #3 @sophie.heima defended her "Queen of the Tire" title against 2 boys. While Aubrey work his butt off flipping tire up the hill.

Slide #4 @cloverkhayalan celebrating the win by getting rolled in tire.

Slide #5 the team chilling in the bangin' beach club

We bravely entered the tiny alley branching out from the busiest street of Ubud. Where did this path lead us?

Galungan - June 2022

Dressed in our finest Balinese clothes, we walked to the main road where the barong was carried around the village.

We waited on the side walk for the parade. This was the first Ngiring Barong after 2 years hiatus due to lockdown. @sophie.heima got bored so she bottle flipped.

The Barong carried around the village of Lod Tunduh. Purifying bad energy on its way, followed by hundreds of crowd. Ive never experienced anything like this in Jakarta.

It's our @sophie.heima birthday today.
The big 11.
She is the one who restores balance in the family.
Selfless. Understanding. Loving.
She doesn't ask much for her birthday, just seafood lunch ☺️
