What an incredible day at ‘Land Use Reimagined 2026’ hosted by @adamwdgray and @aucottinteriordesign from the @ruraldiversificationcollective at @barnsgroveclubhouse 🌿

The speakers were some of the best I’ve heard, the people in the room were exceptional, and the conversations around the future of rural businesses, diversification and unlocking the potential of our land were genuinely inspiring.

All of this was delivered with the wonderful hospitality Barnsgrove is known for. A brilliant example of what happens when the right people, place and purpose come together.

It was also a proud moment for us at @retreat_list to be a sponsor so early in our journey of such a wonderful event.

As we build a platform connecting exceptional rural venues with businesses looking for inspiring spaces for offsites, retreats and experiences, being part of conversations like these is incredibly important.

Our countryside has so much more to offer, and the opportunity to help rural businesses unlock new revenue streams while showcasing what makes them special is something I’m hugely passionate about.

A huge thank you to the everyone involved in making this event happen, the team at Barnsgrove, all the speakers and everyone who attended for such a memorable day.

The future of rural diversification is exciting and we’re delighted that The Retreat List is part of the conversation.

1 week to go - Land Use Reimagined 🌿

We’re really excited to be sponsoring and exhibiting at Land Use Reimagined, the upcoming event from The Rural Diversification Collective, of which we’re a registered supplier, at Barnsgrove this October.

A whole day dedicated to land diversification, fresh ideas and the question we love asking…

What else could this land be?

From farms and rural estates to leisure, renewables, commercial opportunities and residential development, there are so many ways to make land work harder — and sometimes the most interesting opportunities are the ones you don’t see at first glance.

We’re looking forward to being surrounded by people who are equally passionate about land, hearing different perspectives, sharing ideas and, of course, having plenty of conversations over a coffee (or two! ☕).

We’ll have our @exdellltd stand there too, so if you’re coming along, come and find us and say hello. We’d love to hear what you’re working on, what you’re considering and what opportunities you’re exploring.

And there couldn’t be a more fitting setting.

@barnsgroveclubhouse isn’t just the venue — it’s a fantastic example of rural diversification in action. 🌿

It’s going to be a good one. 👏

What does success through networking look like?

It isn’t always a new client or a referral landing in your inbox.

For LLC member Sonia from @aucottinteriordesign, one of the biggest benefits has been building a network of people she genuinely trusts:

“Through LLC I’ve met many wonderful and trustworthy professionals. My friends and family often ask if I can recommend trades or other professional services and it’s always been reassuring to know that anyone I refer from the LLC group is trustworthy and reliable.”

And that’s such an important part of what we’re building at Live Life Connected.

A strong network isn’t only about who you know. It’s about knowing the right people.

“We specialise in helping farmers, landowners, vineyards and equestrian businesses transform their spaces into hospitality venues that can generate recurring sources of income.

With more than 20 years of experience across a wide range of sectors, we understand that creating a successful hospitality space is about much more than how it looks.

We work closely and sensitively with our clients to understand their vision, while bringing the commercial awareness needed to create interiors that are beautiful, compliant and genuinely fit for purpose.

Ultimately, it’s about helping our clients make more from the spaces and opportunities they already have and creating something that works beautifully for both the business and the people who visit it.”

🇬🇧🌾 BACK BRITISH FARMERS

The 9th September is #BackBritishFarmingDay — but for us, supporting British farmers is something that goes far beyond a single day.

Through Exdell, we’re lucky enough to work alongside farmers and landowners across the South, helping them look at their land, their businesses and their future with fresh eyes.

We’ve been involved in some incredibly exciting rural diversification projects — finding opportunities within existing land and buildings, navigating planning, unlocking new uses and helping rural businesses evolve.

Because sometimes, protecting the future of a farm means finding a new income stream.

Sometimes it means diversifying.

Sometimes it means making better use of an underused building or piece of land.

And sometimes it means simply looking at what’s already there and asking:

“What more could this land be doing?”

We’re proud to play a small part in helping British farmers and rural businesses build sustainable, resilient futures — while keeping the character and value of our countryside at the heart of what we do.

There’s only so much land.
The opportunity is in how we use it. 🌱

Here’s to the farmers, landowners and rural businesses working incredibly hard to keep our countryside thriving. 🇬🇧

Ever wondered what a working farm diversification success story actually looks like?

Join us at Land Use Reimagined 2026 on 21 October, hosted at @barnsgroveclubhouse near Basingstoke. Jo Butler and family have transformed a former dairy site into a destination that’s redefining what rural land can do.

Barnsgrove is a 500-hectare working arable farm, where you’ll also find:

• Co-working space — private offices, resident desks and hot-desking
• Meeting and event spaces for hire
• Wellness treatment rooms
• Two indoor padel courts
• Café, bar, gym and exercise studio

All built without diluting the core farm business. Proof that #farmdiversification can add income while protecting what’s already working.

Spend the day with farmers, landowners, vineyard owners, rural business operators, and expert rural diversification suppliers. Hear real-world case studies on hospitality and land-use diversification — all over locally sourced food.

Watching Clarkson’s Farm has us all thinking the same thing…

Everyone needs a Charlie.

That one person who gently says:

❌ “You can’t quite do that.”
❌ “Planning doesn’t work like that.”
✅ “Here’s what you can do instead.”

Good planning advice isn’t about saying no.

It’s about finding the route and strategy that gets you to yes.

He didn’t want to sell the house he grew up in. So he got a Michelin Green Star instead.

Hugo Guest grew up in this late-Georgian vicarage on a hilltop in East Devon. His parents ran it as a B&B for decades. When they suggested selling, he retrained as a chef, came home, and rebuilt it with his wife Olive into something nobody saw coming.

A Michelin Green Star farm-to-table restaurant, nine individually designed boutique rooms, three cedar cabins, a working smallholding, and a wood-fired sauna overlooking the Coly Valley.

Have you visited?

Client: “Can you point us in the direction of inspiration for a really good cottage?”

Us: “Absolutely.”

Immediately opens photos of Everards Farm… 😂🏡📷

A fantastic example of how traditional rural architecture, quality detailing and great placemaking can come together to create something special.

Thanks to Rural Diversification Collective, Robbie, Tracy and Lucy for sharing the project with us.

Where should a landowner start?

The answer isn't always a planning application or a development scheme.

It's understanding what you already have.

A land portfolio review is often the most valuable first step—not because it commits you to change, but because it reveals the opportunities across your land. Many of those opportunities are unknown, overlooked or quietly sitting between traditional sectors.

The reality is that land and property rarely fit neatly into a single category. Looking at the bigger picture can uncover opportunities for development, rural diversification, planning gain, renewable energy and asset optimisation that might otherwise be missed.

Before making decisions, it's worth understanding the full potential of your portfolio.
