you need to serve on a mission more than you think.

for the past 4 years God has been growing a passion within me for ministry. I’ve routinely served in various areas of @timberlakechurch , and through that I’ve found such a joy in making Jesus known to the next generation. But overtime I realized I had grown too comfortable. I was serving with my whole heart, but it was as if I was only pouring out into spaces that fit inside a specific box- and I struggled to push myself past my limits and into the boldness I know Jesus had gifted me.

So I said yes to a mission. I said yes to 7 days in Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica. I said yes to long, hot, and humid days building a house for a family that was in desperate need of provision. I said yes to new fellowship with complete strangers. I said yes to villages and communities that graciously connected with us and received prayer. I said yes to the commandment of the great commission.

And just as He has done before, the Lord used my yes to stretch me in new ways as a servant. I spoke in barely-understandable spanish. I prayed for others even if my heart was pounding nervously. I shared my life with others even if there was the chance I would never see them again. I learned to make new sacrifices with my routines. I learned to love Jesus even more loudly than before and against every circumstance.

Going back to my home country and my familiar settings- I am still in awe of the Lord and the way He uses our “yes”. Through this mission God has given me a fresh flame for His people, both in the familiar and unfamiliar spaces. I know Jesus desires for me to take this new boldness and bring it back onto the path He has called me into- and that’s exactly what I’ll do.

So please go serve in a new way. Get uncomfortable. Let the Lord grow something new in you- and bring it back to your familiar spaces. It’s all to know Jesus and make Him known.
