heading home from a tuscan dream,
from italian splendor🫀

we danced, we sang,
we got our fingers dirty
until we couldn’t tell
where your mess began
and mine ended.

my orchestra strumming and stringing
itself back together.

visiting chapels. walking medieval towns.
leaving, at last, a fingerprint on the ancient world.

processing the love
the herbal memory,
the nursing,
the women who know how to be women
and pour from their cups
without emptying them.

that is self-love.
that is embodiment.

that is someone saying,
hey—look at the ground.

sixteen beautiful, pillared women,
not going anywhere.
helping you build this beautiful new earth project,
the one you signed up for
before you came here.

here are your sisters from past lives.
and so on, and so forth.

here are the wordsmiths.
weavers.
beauty amplifiers.

here are the olive trees,
the cypress trees,
Lucca driving crazily.
(( gawd bless that man ))

here are the rich red terracotta shutters,
the phallic string-bean tree,
the Saran Wrap goodness.
the nourishing meals
graced by nonnas (( dev & yas )) 🧚
who know the oldest language:

love.

floating at last
in the salty Mediterranean Sea.
communicating at last
with the ocean,
with me.

the late-night poetica parlor.
the buzzing energy.
snacks in my room.
the weeping, the squealing,
the jumping up and down.
the hugs and back-heart rubs.

the fifteenth-century villa
carrying us up and down,
all around

and as my dear friend Kyla once said:

“There will always be Tuscany in September”
🫒🕯️🎨🪞👁️🪵🌸🍷🌌🦊🍝🌀🫂🫀

and now, home in the States,
I believe her.
