🕊Architecture is VERY layered here in Sicily because it is the most conquered country in the world. It sits perfectly on the Mediterranean Sea between Africa & Europe.

🕊 It started with 3 indigenous tribes: Elimi, Siculi & Sicani. I wonder what it was like during these times, their traditions and how they prayed, sang, danced, tended with the land? Did they worship the Goddess?

🕊Then, when the patriarchy pushed their egos into rhe world, Sicily was invaded by: Greek, Lebanon Phenecians, Islam, Byzantine, Normans, Spanish. 1861 was the unification of Italy which was known as the "Golden Age". Then, 1943 during WWII, Sicily was destroyed again.

🕊Sicily is now a cultural lasagna, blending layers of global culture in its Architecture, markets, food, traditions. Its language is its own. As I try to learn, even Italians do not understand Sicilian language and say it is hard. It is unique. The land of my ancestors is unique. 🕊Everyday I learn. Always a student in this life.
