Maela and I got our first training run done this morning. We ran 2 miles as we're preparing for the @fleetfeetaug #palmettopeach 5K and @augustahalf 5K events! The Palmetto Peach 5K is on November 28 and the Augusta 5K is on February 27. Come out and cheer Maela on! As they get closer, I'll post more details.

Georgia puts 39 races on our state rankings. Only Florida and New Jersey have more.

And one of them is not like the others. The 38 Georgia races with a known field size start 65,543 runners between them. One race accounts for 50,000 of those. The other 37 add up to 15,543.

The second thing Georgia does: it measures its courses. Thirty-one of the 39 run on USATF-certified courses, four in five. Nationally it's half. For 20 of them the certificate is what got them ranked at all. It buys admission, not position.

Swipe — we're counting down from 8 to 1.

When you get there: the Peachtree Road Race in Atlanta is No. 1, founded 1970, 50,000 runners on the Fourth of July. It leads No. 2, the Enmarket Savannah Bridge Run, by 20 points. Last week's New Jersey list had 3.1 points between first and second.

The surprise is No. 3: the Marigold 10K in Winterville, in its 52nd edition, on a field of 246. Age counts, and it outranks two half marathons that each start more than 1,300.

All 39, plus the full scoring breakdown and why the other 202 upcoming Georgia races in our index didn't make it — link in bio.

Rankings are never sold. No race can buy a score here.
