Self-awareness is a superpower.

During my solo crossings of the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans, I spent 162 days alone at sea.

When you’re alone for that long, there is nowhere to hide.

No meetings. No distractions. No one to blame. No one to absorb your emotions. No one to tell you how you’re doing.

Just you.

And that is where self-awareness becomes essential.

One of the greatest lessons the ocean taught me was the importance of observing my own thoughts, emotions, energy levels, and physical condition with honesty and objectivity. Not every thought deserved to be believed. Not every emotion required a reaction. Not every fear reflected reality.

A storm outside could be challenging enough. But often, the bigger challenge was managing the storm inside.

Was I tired, or was I discouraged?
Was I facing a real problem, or was I simply frustrated?
Was my decision based on facts, or was it being influenced by fear, ego, fatigue, or emotion?

The ability to step back and observe what was happening within me became one of the most valuable skills of the expedition.

I’ve come to believe that self-awareness is the foundation of performance, leadership, and healthy relationships.
Whether we are leading a team, raising a family, working through a challenge, or pursuing a personal goal, our ability to recognize our internal state often determines how effectively we respond to external circumstances.

We are constantly observing the world around us.
Far fewer of us take the time to observe ourselves.

Yet that may be where the greatest insights are found.

Because the moment we become aware of our thoughts, emotions, and patterns, we create a space between stimulus and response.
And within that space lies choice.
And then our answer.

@auld_stock taught me this in his online class “The 4 Controllables”. Check him out, he is a Master at what he does.

We can describe what SISU does. But it lands better as a story.

Jordan came to us, successful but quietly falling apart. A business owner with four kids, a desk job, weight creeping up, stress and anxiety keeping him awake at night with no real grip on his own mind. He had lifted weights here and there, but never took his body or his mind seriously.

Fifteen weeks later he was fitter than he had been in years, lifting twice what he started with, and carrying something he had never had before.

“Somewhere in it my mind took over completely. My body no longer had a say. It went past feeling, past emotion, past everything. I will never forget it. It stays with me as proof that I can tap into that whenever I face something hard. The Four Controllables changed how I handle stress and how I run my business.”

That is what SISU does.

Enrollment opens for our next cohort in 24 hours.
It begins with the SISU Readiness Assessment; go to link in bio to discover your SISU score

Intuition versus fear.

This is the internal battle on the road to self realisation.

This is part of every decision that will dramatically change your life for the better.

Despite what it might feel like, it’s a great sign to experience these confusing feelings. It’s telling you you are on the verge of doing something great.

You’re on the threshold.

All of our past Marathon des Sables team members will have felt this, some on a more profound level than others. All of our next MDS 2027 team will be feeling it this morning before they take that all important first step.

Team places are extremely limited and open at 11am today (Thursday, June 4th)

Link in bio or go to our story from 11 to secure your place.

Physical training for performance is not simply a method for increasing capacities of the body.

It is a mechanism for revealing consciousness, character, identity and truth.

The body is a gateway.

Not because suffering is inherently noble.
Not because exhaustion is mystical.
Because physical stress strips away illusion faster than almost else in life.

How we respond to that physical stress shapes the spirit.

We not trying to convince anyone to do this race.

In fact you shouldn’t do it if you are not being drawn to it.

We’ve trained two successful teams across the Sahara now. 23 people crossed that finish line.

And the ones who got there weren’t the fittest, the youngest or the most experienced.

They were the ones who got past their own resistance. Found the trust to listen to the draw in them.

Found the courage to take the hardest step - the first step.

Most people we talk to are doing well on paper. Career, family, money in the bank. And underneath it, a quiet voice they’ve been ignoring for years — the one that knows there’s so much more in them.

The call to adventure.

MDS isn’t the adventure, it’s the crescendo of the adventurous journey. The final battle where you are tested to new levels of thyself.

But the key component of any adventure is the journey. This is what truly and deeply marks us. Moves us. Changes us.

In our MDS Program that is our - 8 month preparation journey. This is where we raise the human capacities to endure. Strengthen the individual physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually to succeed in their adventurous mission.

This is the point

Program enrolment opens June 4th.

If you’re feeling that innate draw to adventure. DM us. We can help.

Keep striving for more from yourself.

99% never find out.

Not because they can’t. Because they never put themselves in an experience that pushes them to the edge.

260km of Sahara. 6 days. Everything you need on your back.

No shortcuts. No comfort. No way out except through.

That’s where you meet the version of yourself you’ve been avoiding - the one the office, the gym, the comfortable life will never introduce you to.

MDS 2027 isn’t a race you sign up for in January and wing it.
It’s 8 months of preparation, led by me, using the exact systems that got a total of 23 athletes across the finish line to date.

Training starts August. Places are limited. The team is being built now.

If something in you just said “that’s me” — don’t scroll past it.

Comment SAND and we’ll send you the waitlist link.

Strength, courage and integrity,

Damian
