Happy birthday to my wife. ❤️

You have always been there to catch me when I fall and lift me up because you know I can reach higher. You chose to go through this life with me, standing side by side through whatever comes our way, and to build a future together. You are the calm in my anxiety, the peace in my stress, and the person who loves me even when I’m struggling to love myself.

Today is hard. Between your work as a doctor and mine as a social worker, we got maybe seven minutes in passing, in the parking lot, together. But those were the best seven minutes of my day. I hope you enjoyed the breakfast and roses I sent this morning. I wish I could have been there to share them with you.

I see the care you give your patients, the time you give your mentees, and the love you pour into being a mother and wife. I also see the sacrifices you make for our family. I know none of it is easy, even though you have a way of making incredibly difficult things look effortless. I love you, I appreciate you, and I’m grateful for everything we’re building together.

You deserve to be celebrated simply because you’re you. I probably won’t see you tonight while you’re working overnight, but I hope you feel loved every minute of your birthday. I can’t wait until we get our time to celebrate together. Happy birthday, babe. ❤️

August is more than just a month on the calendar. It’s a time to pause and honor those who sacrificed in the pursuit of freedom, dignity, and justice. It reminds us that liberation isn’t only about breaking physical ⛓️‍💥chains, it’s also about breaking cycles of violence, hopelessness, and incarceration. As someone who has experienced incarceration, Black August calls me to a different kind of work: helping to free minds, restore humanity, and create pathways so our youngnz never have to walk the roads those that came before us did. The greatest way we can honor those who found s way is not by just repeating history, but by building a future worthy of their sacrifice. The Liberation is real and as my sister Dr. Zoe Spencer @aunt_zoe says,
“Love is the Revolution”

For 6 days across 4 different states, the Second Chance community did more than ride a 🚎 ☮️… we defined our relevance in a country that once tried to bury us beneath mugshots, prison numbers, stereotypes, and shame. People who were once discarded by society became the bridge across the racial divide. That Freedom Ride wasn’t just movement… it was proof. Proof that redemption is real. Proof that healing is possible. Proof that the people this system tried to erase still carry enough humanity to help save America from itself. We laughed together with our WMRJ brothers and we cried together with our WMRJ brothers. Faced hard truths together and somewhere between the highways, prisons, slave trails, and conversations… love became the loudest rallying cry on that bus. This s#%^ wont performative love nor clout chasing social media love ! Pham it was the kind of love that sits in discomfort, listens deeply and refuses to let people stay dehumanized!!! I promised ya’ll when I came home that the Second Chance community shall be described as RELEVANT !!!!! After everything that we survived ( and still surviving) , we still chose love over bitterness, purpose over pain,
and humanity over oppression .

This @officialvsutrojans Homecoming 2025 tribute is dedicated to @aunt_zoe for her years of service to MY HBCU!!! It was her Saturday school lesson on Ideological Hegemony that reignited my passion for learning and her affiliation with VSU made this institution an easy choice. Z, attending my first homecoming was quite an experience. Your retirement made it bitter sweet. You know wherever we go, we’re on a mission. So @zbeythapoet__ of @community_5050 and I were building peace and putting in work. It’s the necessary, everyday work and how we show up in it. Thanks for being a great example of that. Even @vsutrojanalumni understood the assignment! Maintain that higher frequency, cuz as @mumufresh said, “God’s work is so gangsta”! Shout out to @traxxwill for shining a light on ‘em! And big up to @_madison.kai and @trimmedmere for being the first to bless the board! @dsmoke7 and @iamluckydaye y’all DID THAT!!!

Just days after LaToya Benton, co-founder of Life After the Impact, filed a historic petition with the Supreme Court in the ongoing fight for justice for her son Xzavier Hill, she was hit with another battle.

She spent the entire weekend in and out of the ER with increasingly debilitating neck and back pain. The doctor concluded that she has a left subarticular disc protrusion at C6-C7, which is severely narrowing the spaces where her nerves exit on the left side and mildly pressing on her spinal cord.

She will now be having emergency surgery tomorrow, October 1st, and will be unable to work for at least 6-8 weeks. She and her husband Corey also have two beloved dogs that will need more assistance while he is working and she is rehabbing. So there are additional expenses there.

Of all people, we KNOW LaToya is a fighter and will get through this stronger than ever. She’s been fighting for us and for her son. Now is our time to show up for her with whatever we can offer. Every donation counts.
