We had the pleasure of staying at Áurea Palacio de la Tinta in Málaga @aurea.hotels . This historically fascinating building is full of character, with even the smallest details thoughtfully and beautifully designed.

The historic elevator leading to the rooms was a wonderful touch, while the beautiful stained-glass windows allowed the sunlight to shine through in the most enchanting way.

Exceptional service and a beautiful spa area perfectly rounded off this wonderful experience.

A hotel in Málaga, a Picasso museum, and a connection I couldn’t stop seeing.

I’m usually drawn to earthy, natural tones, so I didn’t expect to fall so hard for the colour at our hotel. Soft pinks, greens, terracottas, splashes of blue. Coupled together, they worked because every one was slightly softened, more sun-faded than bright, with strong black details anchoring it all.

Then, at the Picasso Museum, I started spotting echoes of the hotel everywhere: the colours, the curves, the irregular shapes, those black lines.

It turns out that’s no accident: the hotel is Picasso-inspired. The colours, shapes and lines have been subtly translated into chairs, tiles and rugs.

And judging by my camera roll, I spent more time looking at chairs than at the sea.

Now I’m home, back among my earth tones just in time for autumn, but reminded that soft doesn’t have to mean quiet.
