Central Station Sydney. I love how the ‘no parking’ sign was left in place after the excavation.😁

Bringing together people, projects and procurement. That’s what the inaugural SCOPE 2026 event delivered last week, held in partnership with the Industry Capability Network WA.

More than 300 supply chain, procurement and major project leaders joined us to discuss the opportunities for WA businesses in the defence, infrastructure and energy sectors.

“We all have a role to play in this process. It’s about connecting the right people to get the right outcomes,” State Development and Economic Diversification Minister David Michael said.

The defence stream highlighted the importance of early preparation and strict compliance requirements, hearing from Austal, Sitzler and Multiplex. ICNWA’s Ray Loh facilitated a panel discussion with Worley Fluor Australia, Aurecon and Laing O’Rourke.

On infrastructure, Genus, Built and Fremantle Ports spoke to the breadth of opportunities emerging from WA’s infrastructure pipeline.

The energy stream discussed work packages arising from decarbonisation, with e2o, Alinta Energy, Fortescue and Envision Energy. And BidWrite moderated a panel with Murchison Green Hydrogen, Liberty Industrial and Horizon Power.

Thank you to everyone for making the first SCOPE a success! And to our MC Tina Alteri for ensuring the day ran smoothly and to Danny Ford and Rosemary Walley for the Welcome to Country.

Getting Closer

These photos show the three focal lengths available on the Mavic 4 Pro, with equivalent focal lengths of 28mm, 70mm, & 168mm providing crystal clear views into the CBD that were not possible with my previous drone🔍

All three photographs were captured in succession whilst hovering in the same position above the river. Needless to say I am already enthralled with what can be seen even from quite some distance away

As evidenced by the view here, work on Waterfront Brisbane is progressing apace with the North tower and central core already around seven storeys above ground level⬆️

It was wonderful that the developer completed the revised City Riverwalk as a priority, allowing for walkers, joggers and cyclists to enjoy this section of the riverbank as works on the remainder of the site moves forward

The artwork adorning the walls along here is beautifully done, and pays homage to our wonderfully twisting river. A little further upstream from what can be seen here there is a fantastic mural by local artists depicting aquatic life and it is absolutely stunning🎨

The old adage that 'Brisbane will be amazing when it's finished' continues to hold true with every new precinct that springs up across the CBD, adding verdant public green spaces that draw the eye and makes the city ever more liveable🌿

This is true for this venue, with the renders showing beautifully terraced shaded, grassy places to sit and take in the views across the water: a public and open realm accessible 24/7 featuring cafes, and a fresh mix of dining options🍽️

Here's to Brisbane more and more becoming the best city to call home in Oz, how blessed are we to live here😀

Happy Thursday friends, have yourselves an amazing day

Another view of the new car park at Frankston Station.
Carefully positioned to maintain existing vehicle movements, the building creates a generous landscaped pedestrian edge along Fletcher Road while improving connections to the station and wider precinct.

Small moves that make a big difference to how our cities work.

Better connections, by design.

MGS worked with Aurecon to deliver new commuter car parks at Frankston and Greensborough Stations as part of an Additional Works Package associated with the Level Crossing Removal Project (LXRP) and their Alliance partner, Metropolitan Roads Program Alliance (MRPA).

At both sites, careful responses to movement, landscape and context turn essential infrastructure into a considered part of the everyday journey.

Are We There Yet? Sustainability Does Not Always Photograph Well

Last Thursday night, we gathered at Woods Bagot to ask whether the industry has truly arrived at sustainable design, or whether the work that matters most is simply harder to see. Thank you to our presenters, Michael Bouteloup, Matt Wilkinson, Simon Clark, and Pablo Sepulveda, for sharing their insights.

Key themes from the night:

The most valuable outcomes in sustainable design are not always visible. They are felt in comfort, wellbeing, and material performance, not captured on a certificate.
Every material choice carries carbon consequences well beyond the finished building.
Rating tools and credits reward compliance, not always genuine outcomes.
Retrofitting existing buildings consistently outperforms demolition and rebuild on embodied carbon.
Provenance matters: tracing materials to source, and reusing what already exists on site, meaningfully reduces a project’s footprint.
Quieter buildings are more efficient buildings. Acoustic comfort designed in from day one saves both material and energy.

Thank you to Woods Bagot for hosting, and to our sponsor Autex Acoustics for supporting the evening.

SHAPE Perth successfully completed the fitout of the Community Mental Health and Specialist Eating Disorder Clinic in Greenfields, transforming a 1,402sqm cold shell into a purpose-built facility serving the Peel community.

The new clinic includes waiting areas, consultation and interview rooms, group therapy and treatment spaces, administration areas, and a teaching kitchen supporting practical life skills. Separate waiting areas, culturally safe consultation rooms, dual-egress spaces, acoustic treatments and integrated security systems support patient wellbeing, staff safety and confidentiality.

Delivered in collaboration with South Metropolitan Health Service and the project’s consultants and advisors, the fitout required careful design and services coordination to create a clinically functional, safe and welcoming facility for more than 50 clinical and support staff.
