•The Observer•
A short film born from personal loss
A quiet attempt to survive grief — through light, silence, and art.

After the death of his father, Gérald inherits not only a house full of unfinished paintings, but a silence he doesn’t know how to break.
In this space, memory becomes matter — and looking becomes the only way to feel.

The Observer is my way of holding on. A film created in the aftermath of losing part of me , a way to give shape to pain, and to share the softness that remains.

Directed & Produced by Mariia Shmeleva
Paris, 2024-2025
•

Dedicated to my father — who always believed in art, in wonder, and in the impossible.

My movie is about grief, beauty, love and loss
Art is emotion
Live it
Day 1

Art?
Memories and memories are life, memories are our history that we try to immortalize in different guises, and history is us, if there is a history, we exist.
•
My team that just came into my life suddenly brought me back to life. People around me are putting me back together piece by piece, and art gives me the opportunity to feel alive and to preserve and tell a story. It’s not for instagram, it’s for memories.

Thank you
We started this journey together🎞️

Good morning, world
As good as I’ve felt lately, it wasn’t until the day before yesterday.
I started filming a story, the story of one man, the story of a completely ordinary, simple man, not a wizard, not a president, not a genius.

The observer
Beginning 🤍
You bring me back to life, little by little, step by step, and maybe one day I will realize that this is a reality

I’ll keep my magic team a secret until the release.

With Love, your daughter.
