This week, we had the pleasure of welcoming Franco Irawan Esposito Soekardi, Founder and Editorial Director of Fuorilinea, for an inspiring conversation about carving your own path across cultures, disciplines, and ideas.

For 17 years, he has led the publishing house with a clear mission:
📚To explore distant worlds through overlooked literary voices
🌍 To connect civilizations and cultures across time
🧭To rediscover authors and themes unjustly forgotten, yet deeply relevant to today

Fuorilinea — meaning “out of line” — reflects a commitment to staying flexible, resisting rigid frameworks, and remaining open to new inspirations that help us better understand the “terra incognita” of the present.

🌟Curious about other career journeys? Stay tuned for our next How Did I Get Here? talk!

Tonight I had the surprise of my life. I went to the launching of REMUS, the American University of Rome’s annual art and literature publication, and there on the big screen was a close-up of the cover: it was my own pen and ink drawing of a detail of Caravaggio’s “The Martyrdom of Saint Matthew.” I knew quite a few of my works were to be included in the issue, but I didn’t know I was gonna make the cover. I couldn’t be happier!!

Reach out to Kathy Bemis and Professor Colletta immediately with any interests. I’m happy to answer any questions in person as well. It’s been…real. ✌🏼

It’s time to make space on the bookshelf…
Pawn that fodder off on a fellow classmate, then take the rest to trade-in (🤞🏼).
•
11:30am: meet @aurrome for classmate book swap
•
12pm: make our way to the most special little bookshop in Rome to try and trade in your remaining stash…or at least find a little treasure to add to your mix.

With the anticipation of a busy workshop ridden semester, heavy focus was placed on short story compilations. I’ve read some real gems, and some real duds. What have you been reading?
