Polycystic Ovary Syndrome or in other words PCOS is a common hormonal disorder that affects 1 in 10 women. It is severely under researched and studied. Most women suffer in silence. I am 1 in 10 and this has been my experience…

Pre diagnosis, I went to my OBGYN with concerns about not seeing progress in the gym after consistently working out 6 days a week for a year. I was also severely fatigued all of the time (needing three naps a day to simply just function), consistently breaking out, and having a painful menstrual cycle. My OBGYN at the time took blood work and of course told me everything was fine. I brought up my concern about potentially having PCOS and was told, “it’s probably not that but if it was we can only treat it if you were pregnant.” Not the best answer but I was not going to give up. I was tired of being EXHAUSTED.

I then found my provider Melanie at @auri.medical who listened to every single one of my concerns. Immediately knew what was going on and ordered a bigger panel of bloodwork where we then found PCOS based off of some of my levels. (If you know, you know that you can’t get an official diagnosis unless you get an ultrasound but that in itself is pretty pricey) we began to treat it with different medications and balancing out my hormones. I finally began to see and feel the changes that I was looking for and the light at the end of the tunnel….

2.5 years later, I got the ultrasound and can officially say I have PCOS. It’s better than it was but every day I am still learning how my body functions and what it needs. My symptoms are still there and always will be as this is something that I will have to manage the rest of my life.

I’m grateful for providers that fight and advocate for their patients. Those providers are hard to come by. I owe a lot to Melanie and am super appreciative to have her in my corner.

If you have PCOS, you are not alone. I hear you and I see you. If you are a fellow PCOS girlie, please reach out. I’d love to start our own little community🫶🏻
