SAVE THE CAT! was a massive success 🐱

This year for my birthday, I rented out 29th Street Ballroom to throw a comedy show for New Hope Animal Rescue, a 501(c)3 that rescues cats and dogs at risk of euthanasia in Central Texas

Last year I volunteered there and saw just how hard everybody works and how small the operation is

They were perfect, I knew our money would go to cats and dogs in need instead of inflated executive salaries

We completely lost count of how many people attended but it was 120+ and we blew past our initial fundraising goal of $1,000 and ended up with $2,666

I wanted the event to be special so I booked three comedians who are funnier than me, an up and coming musical act, created custom stickers, and raffled off a pair of Weezer tickets generously donated to me by KUTX Assistant Program Director Jacquie Fuller

Our event was also featured in the Austin Chronicle and I really couldn’t have done it alone

The artists agreed to perform for free, the animal rescue pushed the event to all their volunteers, and my partner spent countless hours on marketing and creating social media content

I’m grateful to everybody who came out and supported me through the entire process

We went so far past our fundraising goal that New Hope Founder Kelley Rice insisted I pay out the artists — so they all got paid for their work

Special thank you to Rachel Cheong, Austen Silver, Holly Hart, Amy Shanker, VosCuervo, Jimmy Maas, Andrew Saldaña, and Lady Bird the Cat

It really couldn’t have gone better

We saved so many cats (and dogs)
