From the dreams-come-true department: visiting Jane Austen’s House, having tea “backstage” with amazing House director @lizzie_dunford_writes, and walking to the neighboring estate of Chawton where Austen often visited her brother’s family, and where I was shocked to find - after gathering the courage to walk into this grand place wearing hiking boots - my own book for sale! (Yes, I signed copies!)

The care and thoughtful attention to history, material culture, women’s writing, and social justice that these curators and teams bring to these spaces is so very inspiring.

The last picture is of the writing desk where Austen sat near a busy window of Chawton cottage and wrote and revised the manuscripts of every single one of her published novels. Her nieces and nephew, initially unaware that their aunt was the author of the novel Pride and Prejudice, later remembered that they thought she was writing letters, and that she would occasionally laugh out loud to herself.

All we can say is thank you. Thank you for listening, for sending zany topics for us to connect during 6 Degrees of Jane Austen, for live tweeting P&P rewatches, for supporting us on Patreon, and helping us grow a pandemic text into a real community. We’re incredibly grateful to all of you for helping to make this project so special.

What better way to close out than to get us in our truest forms? Our last episode (ack!) is the most authentic recording session of ours you’ll hear — no cuts, just tongue-in-cheek analysis sandwiched between giggles and memories. We hope it brings you joy 🌞

Of late, everyone has heated rivalry on their minds—but, there is perhaps no rivalry more heated than the one between the 1995 and 2005 Darcys. We put out holiday lights, all the candles in the house, treats and food, put on Miles Davis and some bourbon in the spiced apple cider, and invited some friends over for lights, drinks, and cheer. It was very last-minute but fun.🌲❤️
