We were given the privilege of contributing to @floodmagazine with a tour diary by our own @austinamccutchen

From Flood:
For those uninitiated, Smidley is the side project of @foxing frontman Conor Murphy which was formed prior to that band’s indefinite hiatus, but which now obviously has become Murphy’s primary mode of musical expression. After releasing albums in 2017 and 2022 that were far more bedroom-pop in their scope than Foxing’s increasingly stadium-ready projects, he’s returning next month with Murphy Horse, a record which matches the grand art-rock ambitions and unclassifiable sound of the last two Foxing releases. If that doesn’t command your attention, the record’s first single, “Capstone,” featured vocal contributions from @lucydacus

Speaking of Lucy, the band just wrapped up a string of live dates opening for her across the Midwest and East Coast. Throughout the journey, we had Smidley’s multi-instrumentalist Austin McCutchen (also of @hotjoyband and @choirvandals ) compile a tour diary of the band’s trip.

Pleased to announce The Horse Around The World Tour clops on with some headline shows after we support the incomparable @ratboysband in October. Also, our album release show at @offbroadwaystl in St. Louis is shaping up to be a wild night. I recommend grabbing your tickets immediately.

At times, I feel much like an island within the world of indie or whatever it is that this Vagabonds project fits (or doesn’t fit) into. These past couple weeks, though, I’ve been feeling the inverse of whatever that singular feeling is.

That’s partially because I actually got these new songs out my bedroom, out of my brain, and onto a stage. Equally, though, it’s because I spent a bit of time with the friends in these frames whose artistry and friendship alike inspire and encourage me to keep creating and continue connecting.

Thanks for listening to “Held Back At The Gates” the last few days.
Now please…
Listen to the new @conormurphy420 & @lucydacus tracks (especially the collab track too)
Keep the @davidbazan / @pedrothelion catalogue on repeat always
Go see @those.fears whenever David gets the band together
Buy the new book from @levithepoet (I started reading my copy last night)

Much love <3

First three shows with @lucydacus are in the books and they’ve been an absolute dream. We’ve got headline shows in Chicago and Detroit coming up Friday (7/16) and Sunday (7/19) before we meet back up with Lucy and Co. And we’ve got a limited number of vinyl and CD’s of Murphy Horse left with us.

Everyone in the Lucy band and crew have been warm, welcoming and great hangs. Getting to watch them each night is a privilege and getting to spend time with them before and after is an honor. We wish this tour was forever.
