“The only way you can score bodybuilding show is in direct comparisons.
Whatever you do on your own - does not matter…it is not being scored…Oh, I forgot - except in a posedown, where you have a chance to do whatever you want next to the other guy.” 🤡🙄

Bob, as I turned pro 10 years before you and competed in 60 shows more than you - I remember very well how scoring/judging was done.

Everything being judged was scored!

3 ROUNDS
2 with direct comparisons
1 alone, not being compared

1. Standing relaxed (feet together, arms by your sides - for logical reason)
2. Exact mandatory poses (showing every muscle from every angle)
3. Poses other than mandatories (showing strengths and hiding weaknesses of your physique)

Every competitor was put through these three rounds and every round was scored.

Top 6 would also have 4th round - now called “conformation round” and one more round of judging was implemented for top 6.

Scores of all 4 rounds were calculated into the final score (Example of Ronnie beating Jay at 2001 Mr Olympia as he had two more rounds of SCORING to overcome his prejudging deficit)

RELAXED ROUND favored shapely guys..and structure, shape, aesthetics, proportions, balance, V-taper, X-frame, flat stomach, small waist…etc matter more than muscularity. Round that favored me and my type of physique. Yes, muscularity, conditioning, muscle density, size…etc all mattered (in every round) - but emphasis was clear in every round on what judges were scoring

MUSCULARITY ROUND favored muscular guys…in chosen mandatory poses that were being compared to others

INDIVIDUAL ROUND of posing, which you explained here so perfectly - WAS BEING SCORED WITHOUT DIRECT COMPARISONS…And twisting back shots, archery poses, mantis pose, Victory pose or all these beautiful kneeling and lunging shots you did here - MATTERED!

Otherwise, why do we remember Arnold, Sergio, Frank Zane, Serge Nubret, Larry Scott and so many others mostly because of their unforgettable signature poses?
Those poses mattered because POSING MATTERED.
