The only thing stronger than this rivalry is the respect 🇦🇺🤝🇯🇵 Two athletes stand on a lacrosse field. One wears a yellow "Australia" uniform, and the other is in a red "Japan" uniform. They are smiling and appear to be in conversation following a game, holding lacrosse sticks. The background shows more players and part of the field.

Thank you, Sunshine Coast Council ☀️

As major sponsor of the 2026 Asia-Pacific Sixes Lacrosse Championships, the Sunshine Coast Council helped bring international lacrosse to one of Australia’s most beautiful regions.

Over six days, teams from across the Asia-Pacific competed for medals and qualification for the 2027 World Lacrosse Sixes Championships in Colorado Springs, the first stage of the region’s Olympic pathway.

Alongside the competition, local schoolchildren picked up a stick for the first time, our athletes showcased the region at Kings Beach, and packed crowds brought an electric atmosphere all week.

None of it happens without partners who believe in the power of sport to bring people together. Thank you for welcoming the lacrosse world to the Sunshine Coast. We can’t wait to come back 💚💛

A special guest on championship day 🥇

We were thrilled to welcome Australian Olympic Team Chef de Mission Anna Meares to the 2026 Asia-Pacific Sixes Lacrosse Championships, where she helped present the medals.

It was Anna’s second visit with our athletes, after meeting the squads earlier in the week. That connection meant a lot to our players, many of whom have their sights set on LA28.

Having Anna there to hand out medals on the final day was the perfect way to finish. She’s an Olympic champion herself, and she was celebrating some of our potential future Olympians 🇦🇺

Thank you, Anna, and thank you to the Australian Olympic Committee for your support of lacrosse’s Olympic journey 💚💛

You might have noticed the yellow goals at the 2026 Asia-Pacific Sixes Lacrosse Championships, which were provided by the CJR Foundation and used throughout the tournament on the Sunshine Coast 💛

For the Australian lacrosse community, it was a week when Callum and Jake, and their friend Carter, were especially close to our hearts. Every time a ball hit the back of those nets, we were reminded to live bigger, shine bright and love harder.

Thank you to the Robinson family and the CJR Foundation for being part of this event, for their continued support of the sport of lacrosse, and for keeping Callum and Jake’s spirit at the centre of our game.

Japan 9, Australia 8 in the Asia-Pacific Sixes gold medal game. The hosts lost by one goal 😮‍💨

These are the 5 women’s lacrosse teams headed to the 2027 World Lacrosse Sixes Championships in Colorado Springs:

🇯🇵 Japan (gold, 6-0)
🇦🇺 Australia (silver)
🇰🇷 Korea (bronze, 16-11 over the Philippines)
🇵🇭 Philippines
🇳🇿 New Zealand (took the last spot, 13-11 over Chinese Taipei)

This is another step on the road to LA28. Japan and Australia keep trading wins. Japan took the 2025 final, Australia won World Games bronze in overtime, and now Japan takes the rubber match.

I owe you an apology for going quiet. I was at the Chicago Marathon for work, but I’m back. What’s next: the Atlas Cup is Oct 23-25 in Sparks, MD, with USA vs Canada women closing it out Sunday after that 15-14 Pan-Am thriller. Then Euro Sixes in Spain, with the women starting Nov 2.

Send this to your lacrosse group chat and tell me who surprised you most 👇
