These words are serious triggers for people like me🔥 #repost from @autiwomen When I first found out about autism spectrum disorder (ASD) - a huge part in my identification was that I have never been able to work more than part-time. Luckily, working in the beauty industry for 10 years allowed me to survive; but I never thrived. I know now it’s because of my sensory processing disorder which is a part of my autism. This means that because of the way I take in information- it can feel pretty much impossible to work the typical 30-40 hour work week. With that being said- I’m super lucky to have a supportive partner @brynden allowing me to take a few months off to recover from a lifetimes worth of trauma due to my female autistic traits being invisible to the outside world . I’m so grateful I can take this time because I know not everyone is as fortunate. Im so grateful to take this time to reflect, recover, and create a plan of action for my future. It hasn’t always been so easy to accept help from others. Ive always resisted help due to an almost extreme need to feel self sufficient-despite my drowning feeling. But I’m realizing its ok to say you need help/ and even to ask for it. I’m ready to see what’s next as far as a new career goes. ✨👯‍♀️🙌🏼 -and to focus on my #specialinterests Of course this change is scary but I’m confident I can excel in whatever new field I choose. It’s so nice to finally understand how I tick. #autism #autismawareness #invisibleillness #triggerwords #ownit #itsoktoaskforhelp #newpaths #excitement #freedom #knowledgeispower #careerchange #aspie #aspienwomen #pdxartist #aspienartist
