Alisha's designing her first control panel!

Too often, young designers will throw some things together in CAD in a way that looks reasonable and release it to assembly without ever really knowing the details of what differentiates a quality design from a mediocre one.

It's not necessarily their fault. I mean, you don't know what you don't know.

I remember the first time I tried to build one of my own designs. It was a humbling experience. Had I really only left a half inch between that section of wire duct and the terminal blocks? How was I supposed to get my fingers in there to terminate? Where could I run my VFD output to keep it away from that sensitive DC?

Alisha's physically building her first design to learn those lessons at the beginning: when they should be learned!

Tell Alisha a few things to look for as she begins her career in #electrical design and #troubleshooting!

Manufacturing Day 2026 | September 23

Forsyth County high school students stepped out of the classroom and into local manufacturing facilities to explore the careers, technology, and opportunities available right here in our community!

Students toured and learned from incredible local employers, including:

🔹 BoldVu®
🔹 BTD Manufacturing
🔹 Dynamic Technical Formulations
🔹 ENERVEX Inc.
🔹 GAF
🔹 Kamstrup North America
🔹 Siemens Energy

These experiences help students connect their interests to real-world careers while showing them that great career opportunities are right here in Forsyth County.

Thank you to our participating schools, business partners, college and university partners, and sponsors AutomationDirect and L3Harris Technologies for making Manufacturing Day possible! #fccollegecareer #forsythpathways

Alisha's alarm circuit

Using an inductive proximity switch, an electromechanical relay, and an LED stack light, Alisha made a pedestrian warning for forktruck operators.

The idea is that pedestrians in a factory navigate a pathway that crosses a forktruck lane. When pedestrians open a gate into the forktruck lane, a green lamp will switch to red, alerting the drivers to foot traffic.

This exercise teaches:

☆How to read an electrical schematic
☆How to read a panel layout drawing
☆Wire stripping, labeling, and termination
☆Datasheet and hookup diagram research

Alisha is showing great promise in an industry where talent is very much needed.

Let's give her a little praise for a job well done!
